Lets talk flexi hoses

Flexi hoses would be my number one issue for internal house leaks.

When this happens the damaged caused could cost you THOUSANDS possible even tens of THOUSANDS.

What’s the main causes you might ask?

1. Old in age (Manufacturing recommendations to replace every 5 years)
2. Kinked or twisted (Bad installation or loose taps)
3. Oxidised or rusty (weather, salt, cleaning chemicals)
4. High water pressure (Australian standard is no more than 500kpa supply to your house)

How to prevent major leaks

1. Yearly inspection of flexi hoses
2. Replace every 5 years
3. Store cleaning products away from hoses
4. Don’t clean hoses or around hoses with harsh cleaning products
5. Have a pressure reduction installed on your house (Every house in Australia since 2005 should legally have one installed)
6. Turn your main water isolation off if you go away for more than 3 days. Open a tap to release pressure. Turn back on when you arrive home worry free
7. If you’re on tank water turn pump off open tap release pressure

Have you got a leaky tap set in your shower, bath or vanity that’s dripping or leaks?

Maybe you’ve recently learnt how to change the washers and your all chuffed with yourself?
When you turn the water back on the leak is still present?
Maybe you’ve tried a few different types of washers with the no success?

Let me explain the most common reason that causes this

Your most likely have got a cracked breech

You’re probably thinking that sounds expensive to fix!!!

It doesn’t have to be

First thing the plumber should be trying reseating the breech with a speciality tool.
(Any plumber you get out to do a washer replacement should be doing this anyway)

Now with re seating there is only so much that can be taken off before the tool will chew through the back of the breech. If that happens now we have to replace the breech. Meaning the wall need to be open. Which not ideal.

Secondly if there isn’t enough meat to buff the breach back or its maxed out. You can get your plumber to give adding a new seat in the breech with another specialty tool and process. If they say they can’t do this and the wall has to be opened there lying to you.
This option doesn’t always fix the issue though!!!!

My theory is might as well give re seating a go. If it doesn’t work then the wall will need to be opened up and replace the breech then.

Third option is as you may have guessed cut the wall open to remove and replace the breech. This is the time where you can choose to re install a breech or a mixer tap.
This option is definitely not ideal for the money bank due to most of the time tiles, cement sheet, plaster, water proofing will
Be compromised and will need to be replaced. This should be you last option once all others have been tried. I’m

Whole House Calcite Filter install for today!

Why do you need a calcite filter for rainwater?

The issue of tank water acidity is of particular concern for customers with the poly/steel tank + copper pipes combo - this must be addressed in order to prevent copper pipe corrosion and pinhole leaks in your pipework later down the track (which is very costly to fix)!
Rain water is commonly known to be in a very acidic state (around a pH of 5) naturally, and it is only when it comes into contact with earth or other organic material that the pH rises to neutral and even alkaline levels. However when you have clean gutters and a new clean poly tank (or a poly-lined steel tank), there is no organic or inorganic matter to dissolve into the water to raise the pH, thus you are left with highly acidic water sitting in your tank. This can cause extensive health issues in the long term, but it may also affect your plumbing work throughout your house. Copper is easily corroded by acidic water - if this is happening in your home, you will notice a blue/green tinge which is a signal that copper is dissolving into your water. Acidic water works its way from the inside out and if left long enough untreated, may cause your entire copper pipework to fail and need replacing.

It’s Suitable for tank water with a pH below 7
