Returning to regenerative ways as an act of defiance against the extractive systems we live under.

There are so many small and large things we can change in our every day lives to shift from living extractively, to regeneratively.

Whether that’s one of the many ways of nutrient cycling, or growing food with ecological principles.

It all requires a full switch up of how we look at the world, shifting our mindset to see ourselves as humans within an ecosystem instead of apart from it or higher than it.

We were so grateful to have Noosa Forest Retreat host us last weekend as we taught our backyard food sovereignty workshop. We ate food from their land and taught regenerative skills in the classroom that is their permaculture community.

Stoked to be sharing the knowledge and connecting with like minded humans. Our hearts are full.

Our next one is in a few weeks time on the Central coast for the Sydney and Central coast crew. Link in bio, hope to see you there!

There are things that tell us whether our garden is healthy or not.

We can do this by learning to read the landscape and understand its cues, such as certain bio-indicators that tell us our garden ecosystem is thriving and balanced.

Beneficial insects (lady birds, dragonfly, spiders, parasitic wasps) and other animals like birds and tree frogs are a sign of a healthy garden!

These animals not only show that there is diversity within the ecosystem, but they are also keeping the garden ecology in check by predating on smaller pest species.

It also means the garden you have put in is acting as habitat for important pollinators and other wildlife.

If you see these guys around your garden, it’s a sign of diversity, and therefore a sign it’s healthy and resilient!

When global systems become fragile, growing your own food becomes an act of resilience.

It’s only a few days until our next Backyard Food Sovereignty Workshop at the beautiful location of Noosa Forest Retreat this weekend!

If you want to dive deep into growing food within resilient home systems, come along!!

Most people in the modern world have a very limited diet of the same 12 or so conventional vegetables.

And while those veggies are great, it’s beneficial to diversify the diet beyond the European vegetable range and expand to the less conventional vegetables and fruits.

If there was more of a market for a wider range of produce, it would not only diversify the food system but also your gut microbiome, creating healthier & more robust food systems AND gut systems 🥲

If you grow your own food, Choko is one to put in the garden. It’s prolific, abundant and so good in curries and stews as it has a really great texture that absorbs the flavour it’s in.

And they’re also great pickled!

Our aim in our Backyard Food Sovereignty workshop is to breakdown regenerative skills & ecological design principles so that they’re digestible, and follow it up with practicals that allow the information to fully sink in.

We hand picked the most important skills & resources and have distilled them into a weekend workshop to equip you with the knowledge that ensures your sovereignty.

The skills of growing food and recycling your waste are shared in a way that you can immediately apply at any scale to your land at home.

Come join us up on the Sunny Coast for the next one at the end of this month !!

Regenerative culture vs extractive culture.

A clip taken from an interview I did with Natália Scavone during our 2-day Backyard Food Sovereignty workshop in Crescent Head.

I loved chatting with Nat on all the topics around regenerative living, belonging and how earth-based knowledge systems are our only hope as a species.

A little sneak peak into the second day of our Backyard Food Sovereignty Workshop that we held in Crescent Head a month ago 🌿

Taranar | Permaculture design | Bush Regeneration and I were in so much joy and passion sharing everything we know about growing food, nutrient cycling and building resilient systems at home.

The weekend was so uplifting & empowering for everyone involved, and we can’t wait to do it all again at Noosa Forest Retreat on the Sunny Coast at the end of this month.
