Check out this cute little Native Bee 🐝
Meet the Masked Bee. It was nesting inside a treated hardwood fence post we found that had an issue with fungal decay here in Murwillumbah (right in town). A good reminder that even built-up areas can still provide habitat for native wildlife.
Masked Bees are harmless native pollinators and an important part of the local ecosystem. They don’t build aggressive colonies like European honey bees and generally want nothing to do with people.
It’s also a good example of why we inspect properly before treatment work begins. Careful inspections help us identify pest activity, fungal decay and other issues but critically it helps us look after non-pest and native species that may be using the area as habitat.
Sometimes the best outcome is simply understanding what’s there first 😊🤓
