Winner Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year – North Coast Region, Queensland Training Awards.
Anja Siebers who emigrated from Germany, completed a Conservation and Land Management traineeship with us and is now working as a bush regenerator with the ECOllaboration Crew.
After emigrating from Germany in her mid-30’s Anja found herself applying for up to 30 jobs at a time with limited success and continued to work at any role she could find. In her spare time Anja volunteered at the Mooloolah River Landcare nursery.
This connection led her to discover the community-based traineeships hosted by ECOllaboration, with training that is proudly funded by the Queensland Government through its Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) initiative. SQW funds not-for-profit community-based organisations like us to deliver projects that respond to the needs of local jobseekers and employment opportunities in their area.
Anja made the phone call and was accepted into the program alongside 10 other people. This trainee crew graduated and Anja stayed on to complete her Certificate 3. She is now a full-time bush regenerator on our crew maintaining the Sunshine Coast Council coastal and hinterland reserves.
At ECOllaboration we all stand on the shoulders of giants, so here is a shout-out to our finalist from last year Brock Gowling-Hammond and Supervisors Ali Goodall Mal Smith and Marcelo Atique
Anja’s path to success? Volunteer for something you love, pick up the phone, and then stay with the training program. Training truly is a way to break the cycle and with over $1 billion slated for skills development in Queensland now is the time to act.
It hasn’t always been easy but Anja now has a car that enables her to indulge her passion for the outdoors lifestyle and stable accommodation that allows her to indulge her passion as a carer for Wildlife SEQ Inc.

Thank you to everyone for celebrating the graduation of our Trainees. Robert Skelton MP for Nicklin represented the Minister for Employment and Small Business and Minister for Training and Skills Development Di Farmer, and presented all graduates with their certificates.
This program is proudly funded by the Queensland Government through its Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative, so it was extra special that also on the day a former SQW participant Anja Siebers was celebrated alongside Summer Clark and Daniela Cook for their Cert III graduations in Conservation and Land Management and Business Administration (respectively). SQW really helps people get that foothold in the employment market alongside some quality training opportunities. With us the Crews were learning and working at Amamoor National Park for ; as well as Environmental Reserves in the Sunshine Coast region to make habitat improvements; and we know they will continue to make a difference in the Community.
