Nambour Garden Club is a vibrant community of gardeners and plant-lovers. The Club is affiliated with Garden Clubs of Australia whose motto, “Friendship through Gardening”, we share. Nambour Garden Club generally meets on the first Monday of each month, from February to November. Meetings commence at 10:00am, but come early to browse the library, vote at the competition table, buy plants and raffl
e tickets and have a cuppa before the meeting. Our guest speakers represent a wide range of gardening specialties and expertise. To enjoy and encourage gardening and the understanding of all aspects of horticulture.
2. To stimulate interest in public and private gardens.
3. To promote friendship through gardens and flowers.
4. To facilitate the education of Nambour Garden Club’s members and the wider community in all aspects of horticulture.
5. To actively promote the preservation and conservation of our natural resources. The categories in our monthly competition are:
• Bunch of flowers, no cut foliage.
• Bunch of miniature flowers, no foliage (no larger than 15 x 15 cm).
• One cut flower – single head (e.g. camellia, gerbera, magnolia).
• One cut flower – multiple head (e.g. geranium, salvia, campanula).
• One cut from bulb, rhizome, tuber or corm.
• Fern or foliage – potted or piece.
• Rose – one cut, single or multiple head.
• Hibiscus – one cut.
• Cacti, succulent or bromeliad – piece or potted.
• Ground cover or climber – one cut.
• Native – one cut (can be from shrub, tree or climber)
• Flowering plant in a pot.
• Orchid – spike or pot.
• Fruit, vegetable or herb – one variety only on a plate.
• Plus a monthly special that will be advised in each monthly newsletter. Notes about the competition:
1. Entries must be presented by 9am on meeting day.
2. Entries must be in clear glass bottles or vases.
3. Potted entries must be in clean pots with a saucer underneath.
4. Your name should be placed under the container.
5. You must see a Table convenor before placing your entry in any category.
6. If your entry is a bit rare or unusual, you should have the name of the plant attached.
7. Members may enter up to 3 entries per category. Visitors to our page are welcome to submit posts about gardening – especially gardening experiences on the Sunshine Coast. If you’d like to post a story, photo or query on this page, one of our moderators will be pleased to receive and approve your material for publication. The best way to send material for publication is to message your text and/or photos, using the Message button on the page.
