There’s a fair chance that when the lights start tripping the safety switch after the new roof has been put on, the roofer has put a screw through a cable somewhere.
Took 2 1/2 hours but I found it and of course on the flat roof section with no access.

Safety reminder,
With cooler months approaching don’t overload the power points.
Thankfully the safety switch turned off and the customer found the cause. Someone had turned the “old” heater up to full which the power point wasn’t rated for.
Luckier still, although the power was off, the singed timber wall behind didn’t ignite!

On a nicer note I get great satisfaction from the little things in electrical work. Like replacing a light fitting which enhances the whole room and seeing the joy on the customers face at the improvement.

Dangers of steel conduit and fuse or circuit breaker protected switchboards.

When the older houses in the Derwent valley were built this was the safest method of the times. Unfortunately that was 1960s. A lot has changed and improved since then.

Steel conduit when initially installed (to protect the cloth covered cable inside) was continuously joined and also connected to ground (earth wire) making it safe for fault detection.
Over the years the bloke down the road, the apprentice on the wknd, the home handyman, the retired sparky etc etc has changed lights disconnected the safety earthwire (modified the initial installation)
This then causes the issue should the old cloth covered cable rub on the steel conduit, be damaged by vermin or creepy crawlies, get knocked or damaged by someone in the roof space the conduit can become live 240volts and won’t blow the fuse or trip the circuit breaker. The next person who climbs in the ceiling touches the steel whilst moving around probably wont be coming back out.

Fuses are out dated
Circuit breakers are out dated
They won’t always trip or blow.

Residual current safety switches with overload protection (rcbo) cover the faults and sense power going in and out. As soon as that doesn’t match they trip.

Wiring and installations such as these are potentially fire hazards and death traps.

Be extremely careful when moving around your ceiling space.
Make sure you use qualified trades people for your works.

October is Motorcycle Awareness Month, serving as a timely reminder to all road users that road safety is a shared responsibility.

Motorcycle riders represent some of the most vulnerable people on our roads, and they are significantly more likely to sustain serious injuries if they're involved in a crash.

We're reminding all road users that a moment of distraction while driving can lead to catastrophic consequences.

A few simple things, such as checking your blind spots, providing ample room when overtaking, and being patient on our roads, can make all the difference.

Look. Check. Respect.
