30 Wellings, Warners Bay — mid-build, where the real craft shows.

Scaffold up. New roof on. Cladding going on. This renovation is moving through the stages that turn a family home into something sharper, stronger, and built to last.

From the air you see the full site story. On the ground you see the team putting it together board by board.

A first-floor addition can be a good solution, but it's not always the right one.
The key is understanding early whether the existing home can support what you're trying to achieve, and what it actually costs to get there.
Here's how to work through that decision: https://dub.sh/1m22TsD

Building close to a boundary introduces a level of technical detail that most people don't see coming.
It's not just about where the wall sits. It's fire rating requirements, material restrictions, construction access, and council rules that all need to be worked through before the design is finalised.
Get it wrong early, and you're redesigning later.
Here's what's actually involved: https://dub.sh/3hvLkXK

First major slab at Currawong.
After earthworks, piers, and the delays that come with a sloped site — this is the structure milestone. The home starts reading from here.

Currawong Road — site access.
140 metres of steep grade between the road and the slab. Temporary access first so trucks, deliveries, and the crew can get down — before anyone turns dirt.
A lot of the job happens before construction looks like construction.

A seamless slab pour doesn't happen by accident.
Surveyors, engineers, pump operators, truck drivers, concreters — everyone on their role at the same time. Screeding, finishing, stripping formwork. An odd calmness when the team is right.
The contractors and the crew are often the difference between a good project and a great one.

This Charlestown project began with an existing cottage and a clear goal: extend and transform it into something more functional, more refined, and better suited to modern living.
It's a good example of what's possible when a renovation is approached with the same rigour as a new build.

Gun barrel houses are all over Newcastle — long, narrow floorplans running front to back, rooms stacked down a hallway, living pushed to the rear.
They're a classic of the city's older suburbs. Tight footprints. Period bones. Often more potential than the street suggests.
Our place on McMichael Street in Maryville is one of them: a 1922 cottage with that straight-through layout. Renovating a gun barrel isn't about fighting the plan — it's about working with it, opening the rear, and keeping the character that made these homes worth saving.
