National Road Safety Week may have ended but please remember that road safety should be every driver's focus all year round. It really is of life or death importance that you ALWAYS obey the reduced speed limits through roadworks.

So when you see the cones, obey the zones because your speed is their safety.

Always look out when travelling through work sites!

Despite all their high-visibility clothing, it can still often be hard to see the workers on a busy roadworks site. There’s lots of large equipment and piles of materials which can sometimes hide them from view. That’s why it is never safe to speed through a roadwork zone, even if you don’t see anyone.

So when next you’re driving through a roadwork site, please always be roadworker aware, slow down and take care.

Your speed is our safety.

The TMAA would like to thank the Office for Road Safety, as well as the Northern Territory government, the Tasmanian government and A1 Roadlines for their invaluable support of the ‘Your Speed Is Our Safety’ campaign.

Trying to reach your destination few seconds early can be the difference between life and death for our roadworkers.

See the cones, obey the zones!

Would you rather be hit by a car travelling at 40km/h or 100km/h?

Pretty easy choice, isn’t it. Speed limits through roadwork sites are reduced for a reason. The difference between a car hitting a worker at 40km/h or hitting them at 100km/h can literally be the difference between life and death.

So when you’re next out on the roads and driving through work sites, please always be roadworker aware, slow down and take care.

Your speed is our safety.

Speeding through roadwork sites can be fatal for our road workers, and devastating for their friends and family. Slow down and take care.

Our thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of West Australian traffic controller Michael Janssen, who died on Friday after being hit by a driver at work.

All over Australia, there are thousands of roadworkers whose "offices" are roadwork sites. Please always slow down and obey the reduced speed zones through roadwork sites, whether you see workers present or not.

See the cones. Obey the zones.

Colin Caudell, the husband and co-worker of Suzanne Caudell who was killed on 16 January 2013 while working as a traffic controller in Queensland, revisited the site of Suzanne's tragic death today. Colin shows exactly where a speeding truck driving at 106km/h in a 60km/h work zone hit Suzanne as she stood on the road verge and "brutally and viciously sent her flying 50m down the road".

Please always slow down and obey the reduced speed zones through roadwork zones.

The roadworker hit by a car in WA recently has been named as Mike Janssen. He remains in hospital in a coma.

For Mike's sake and for that of all the other roadworkers, please slow down through roadwork sites.

The family of young traffic controller Mike Janssen, who was hit by a car in Beechboro, say they are praying for him as he fights for his life, and have pleaded for drivers to slow down.

A shattered windscreen from where it impacted on the body of the roadworker.
The discarded bloody clothing cut off his body as the paramedics worked to save his life.
The devastated workmates.
What a scene of senseless carnage.
And now a family hopes and prays for their son or brother to survive.

Will this convince you to slow down through roadworks?

Our thoughts are with the traffic controller struck by a vehicle and seriously injured in Perth yesterday morning.

People work on Australia's roads every day and they all have families and friends that want them to get home safe. Please always slow down through roadworks and obey the reduced speed zones.

When you see the cones, obey the zones.

Roadwork signs are there for a reason. This South Australian driver found this out the hard way when she ignored them and drove straight into a trench despite the roadworkers frantically trying to stop them. Fortunately there were no workers in the trench at the time.

Always obey the signs at roadwork sites, including reduced speed zones.
