Project Update | dnata catering & retail, Western Sydney International Airport (WSI)

Great progress is being made at dnata catering & retail's new facility fit-out at Western Sydney International Airport, with slab-on-ground concrete works now complete and high-level structural steel and platform steel installation underway.

Designed for operational efficiency and future expansion, the facility will have the capacity to produce up to three million meals annually for domestic and international airlines.

This project is built on an 18-year partnership between Total Construction and dnata catering & retail, delivering flight catering facilities across Australia.

Jonathan Barnes: 10 Years Strong

We're proud to celebrate Jonathan Barnes' 10-year anniversary with Total Construction.

Since joining as Leading Hand, Jono has built a reputation for his practical expertise, strong work ethic and hands-on approach to every project.

A key career milestone was leading the Moyne Aged Care project in Canowindra, NSW as Site Foreman. Working in a rural location reinforced the importance of planning ahead, being adaptable and building strong relationships with local trades.

Jono also played an important role on the Kennards Self Storage Minto project, overseeing works from site establishment and demolition through to final handover.

Known for rolling up his sleeves and supporting those around him, Jono's dedication and team-first attitude have made a lasting impact over the past decade.

Outside of work, Jono is a proud father of two girls and enjoys spending time with them bike riding, fishing, gardening and cooking.

Thank you, Jono, for your loyalty and contribution over the past 10 years.

Friday Flashback | In 2023, Total Construction delivered the design and construction of a state-of-the-art food production facility for Beak & Johnson City Kitchen.

The scope included an internal warehouse production facility and storage, as well as an external carpark and loading dock. Our Food & Beverage Team worked closely with B&J to ensure the highest levels of food-grade safety and production efficiency were achieved.

Despite several challenges onsite including asbestos contamination and wet weather, the team showed exemplary resilience and adaptability to deliver this impressive food production facility.

Project Update | Storage King, St Albans VIC

Great progress continues at Storage King St Albans, with several key milestones achieved across the site:
• Final Level 3 suspended concrete slab poured last Friday
• Structural steel installation commenced on Level 3
• Stud framing underway for the ground floor office, retail space and amenities
• Services rough-in progressing throughout the building
• Storage unit fit-out in progress across all lower levels
• External painting of precast panels underway

With multiple trades working in parallel, the project is continuing to build strong momentum towards completion.

Well done to the Total Construction team - Khairul Zulkifli, Nathan Humphrey, Andres Huertas, Jason Li, Troy Gibson and Sanjula Abeywickrema - for driving this project forward efficiently and safely.

Congratulations to our QLD Cadet Georgie Keating on graduating from the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Urban Development (Honours) in Quantity Surveying and Cost Engineering.

Since joining Total Construction in September 2024 through our Pathways Program, Georgie has transitioned from estimating into a site-based role and is currently working across various industrial and aged care projects.

Georgie is appreciated by the team for her commitment, resilience and willingness to learn.

Project Update | Kennards Self Storage, Wentworthville NSW

The team onsite at this new Kennards Self Storage facility have reached an important milestone, successfully completing the first suspended deck pour for Building 2.

Building 2 will deliver 12,334m² of storage space across 5 levels, further expanding the site's capacity and services. The project also includes an extension to the existing building, incorporating a new retail store, office space and additional storage units.

New Project | Make Good Works, VIC

Works are already underway at this vacant tenancy for a high-profile client. Following significant damage to the site, Total Special Projects is carrying out make good works and repairs to reinstate the space.

Works include demolition, glazing repairs, ceiling replacement and patching, wall repairs and painting, joinery works, flooring replacement, mechanical system replacement, electrical and data repairs, and minor external and access works.

Well done to Bill McClelland and Bek Parker on securing this project.

Project Completion | StoreLocal, Pakenham VIC

Total Construction has recently delivered the new 3-level self storage development spanning 8,867m2 for StoreLocal.

The project evolved significantly through its life cycle, requiring close collaboration with the client to value manage and refine the design.

Construction was impacted by ongoing authority delays which placed pressure on the program. However, these delays were proactively managed with strong communication and coordination from the team.

Well done to the Victoria team on delivering a high-quality facility which exceeded client expectations – Thomas Smith, Nathan Humphrey, Sanjula Abeywickrema, James Chen, Clayton Mullett, Shannon Barker.

Project Update | Topping Out at Angel Storage, Lidcombe

A major milestone achieved at Angel Storage, Lidcombe, with the successful completion of the Level 4 suspended slab and topping out of the structure.

Since commencing lift and stair foundations in October 2025, the project team has now completed the main structural concrete works, marking a significant step forward in the build.

Our site and office teams joined the client and project partners for a BBQ, recognising the hard work, collaboration and commitment that have brought us to this point.

Honouring an ancient Scandinavian tradition, an evergreen tree was raised to the highest point of the building to commemorate the occasion.

Well done team on reaching this incredible milestone – Will Anderson, Michael McDermott, Alex Masias, Luca Satnarine, Jason De Pass, Nicola Wall.

Project Completion | Swift Storage Storage, Plainland QLD

Total Construction’s Queensland team has completed a new 3-building, single-storey, 3,300m² self storage facility for Swift Storage, following successful delivery of their Torrington development in 2025.

The facility was constructed with a concrete slab on screw piers, light steel framing, perimeter tilt-up panels, and finished with a Colorbond façade.

The team overcame several site challenges including incorrect soil classification, requiring redesigns and proactive management to avoid delays and additional costs.
