For this project the opportunity presented itself to de-silt a dam and use the harvested soil to top dress an area that had previously been hard to manage, due to rocky outcrops and woody weeds.

A few tense moments over what was an unusually dry autumn with fingers crossed for a good grass seed germination.

The recent rains have been a blessing.

Swipe to see the before.

This previously hard to manage site now a carpet of verdant green perennial rye grass, soon to be supplement planted with River Sheoaks to beautify the site and provide future feed trees for the local Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoos.

Earthworks handled to perfection by Little Dig Excavations.

What's not to love about native fuschias?

Correa 'Pink Mist' is one of our all time favourites and a proven performer in many of our cool climate gardens.

This cultivar has a long flowering period which is why we include it in gardens aiming to attract native nectar feeding birds and pollinator insects.

It has a dense branching habit and small leaves making it well suited to clipped border plantings and pruning into spherical shapes.

It tolerates a wide range of soil types and has good cold hardiness.

Being an Australian native it lends itself well to bush garden designs.

Called in to The Railway Hotel, Spring Hill late one afternoon to see how our Landscape Design was progressing and this is what we found.

The new native screen planting bed delineated by sweeping, curved edges of Corten Steel expertly installed by .andscapes.

With so many straight lines in the built environment curved lines can provide a more relaxing and natural aesthetic. Perfect for the soft weeping native grasses and shrubs selected for this component of the plan.

The beds have been mulched by awaiting a Spring planting.

Bathurst Bush Garden.

This Client requested a bush garden reminiscent of earlier times spent in the Blue Mountains.

The residential property had many mature exotic trees and shrubs so decisions were made as to what to retain for privacy and Summer shade whilst also accommodating the new design.

Since Hawkesbury sandstone soils differ from Bathurst clay component soils the planting schedule includes plants that cater to local soil types and climate whilst providing a bush garden aesthetic.

Hands down the best kitchen garden tomatoe 🍅 for cold tablelands gardens has to be Tommy Toe.

Much loved as an heirloom variety by Heronswood this variety harkens from the Ozark Mountains, a highland area in America.

Let's face it our growing season for Summer crops can be short when faced with late Spring frosts and early Autumn frosts.

The vigorous growth, up to 1.8m tall, and small 20c piece sized fruit means the prospect of loads of ripe tomatoes is exceptionally good when compared to larger fruiting varieties.

As for handling the harvest glut we lay these beauties on a tray in the freezer and then place in freezer containers so we have homegrown organic tomatoes aplenty even in the depths of winter.

During our Trees on Farms Landholder Workshop at Camden we had the great pleasure of revisiting a large revegetation project that we implemented along with the horticulture crew at Elizabeth Macarthur Agriculture Institute in 1992.

This previously cleared site was replanted with locally indigenous tree species to prevent landslip, increase biodiversity and create valuable tree shade for livestock.
