Another 2 stage project completed 😍

We replaced 9 tired, old timber tilt doors with new Colorbond tilt doors, with flashings to finish it off 🤌🏽

Reuse existing motors, but we added manual key releases in case of a power outage.

Why change from a timber door to a Colorbond door?
- Timber requires more maintenance
- Rotting and water damage
- timber is generally heavier
- Colorbond is usually more cost effective

This is the most likely process when something like this happens and we’re involved -

- SES/builder will perform a make safe. This will make the garage structure as secure and safe as possible. If the door/s can’t be secured in the closed position for security, it will usually be boarded up and unusable.

- We will come out and do a report & quote for insurance regarding the door and motor component only, letting insurance know exactly the door brand, type, colour and anything that will need replacing.

- insurance will engage builders to repair or rebuild the garage to the existing size

- we will come back out and check measure what the builder has done, then go through what door options would be covered in your insurance policy.
(Most of the time you can change the design and colour as long as it’s the same price, but this is subject to what your insurance company will allow).

- the boarding stays up until the door is delivered and installed by us.

- builder returns to collect their boarding.

In most cases, if you want to upgrade your door or motor, you may be able to just pay the difference between what you have and the upgraded cost but again, this is subject to your insurance policy.

If you’re wanting white doors to match other Colorbond products around your house like guttering, window frames or window shutters for example, it’s important you know what colour you’re matching!

When they’re on their own, Surfmist and Dover White both look like a normal white, that is until you put them side by side - that’s when you can see the difference!

As all our suppliers use Colorbond steel, the same Surfmist door you order from Gliderol will be the exact same colour as B&D ect.

Most people are absolutely lovely and understanding - rescheduling jobs is not something we like doing but as with any business, sometimes it’s unfortunately unavoidable 😓

What is oil canning 🤔

Oil canning is a slight rippling or waviness which can appear on some panelift doors.

It can be more obvious in wider panel doors pictured below. When deciding on a panelift door, we will let you know that this is always a possibility but not a certainty with this design, and unfortunately there’s nothing we can do to prevent it from happening.

What causes oil canning?
- Thin gauge steel
- Temperature changes - steel can expand and contract in the sunlight
- Pressing and shaping flat steel panels can stretch and thin the metal unevenly.

Does it happen in every door?
No.

Can it be fixed once it’s there?
No.

How can I prevent it?
- Choose a different profile of door
- Insulate your door from manufacture
- Don’t choose a cheap option. A cheaper door can often mean a thinner gauge steel which increases the chance of oil canning in your door.

Is there warranty for oil canning from the manufacturer?
Generally no, but each case is assessed by the severity.
