What started as a bare and basic area was transformed to create a separate kitchen/dining area for the downstairs bedroom, creating a fully self-contained space.

🚨 Queensland smoke alarm laws are changing from January 2027

This will impact ALL homes across Queensland. Here’s what you need to know:
From 1 January 2027, every Queensland home must meet the updated smoke alarm requirements:
✅ Photoelectric (Type A)
✅ Interconnected (when one sounds, they all sound)
✅ Hard-wired (240V) or powered by 10-year sealed batteries
✅ Must comply with AS3786-2014 (marked on the alarm)
🚫 Must NOT contain an ionisation sensor

📍 Where are alarms required?
Smoke alarms must be installed:
• On each storey
• In every bedroom
• In hallways connecting bedrooms to living areas
• If there’s no hallway, between bedrooms and other parts of the storey

⏰ Already in force for some homes
Since January 2022, these rules already apply if your home is:
• Being sold
• Rented / leased
• Substantially renovated
January 2027 simply extends this to everyone.
