I came across this picture and thought i would share information as i have seen wood stored in a similar fashion

This photo captured a common but serious fire hazard. Keeping wood at a safe distance is a simple step that prevents disaster.

1. Radiant Heat: The fireplace gets extremely hot. This heat soaks into nearby wood, slowly baking it until it can ignite on its own, without any sparks.
2. Flying Embers: Sparks can pop out of the fire and land on the woodpile, starting a smolder that can turn into a major blaze hours later.

Safe Storage Rule: Always keep firewood at least 3 feet (1 meter) away from the fireplace opening. Use a metal rack, not the hearth, for wood you plan to burn soon.
