Perth Urbanist is an independent organisation created by young professionals with an aim to promote better planning in our cities. We are dedicated to sharing and promoting an appreciation of Planning, Architecture, Culture and the Environment through informed analysis, visual storytelling, and fresh approaches to urban policy. Our goal is to share ideas and projects which will ultimately have a p

ositive effect on the urban landscape and culture of our cities. We allow anyone with a passion for cities and the built form to contribute to this website; a space to showcase a collection of articles, photos, videos, and podcasts.

All things move towards their end.
It's been increasingly difficult to find time to run Perth Urbanist properly, so it's time to pass the torch.
Streets For People is a Perth based and incorporated NFP that was formed by built environment professionals to use an evidence-based approach to advocate for the return to human-centric design of public space.
S4P members are involved in grass-roots activities, State Government advocacy, and hold seats on several advisory committees. Although they're relatively new, S4P is already making ground.
Check them out and jump-across. It looks like we'll be merging pages soon.

Streets for People advocates for high quality places for people to linger, walk, ride, and enjoy.

We had a great time at the 2017 PIA Congress, representing Perth Urbanist and part of the Western Australian delegation in Sydney. A lot to take away from the congress, we will be publishing a wrap up video in a few days.

Perth Urbanist's Matt Rogers also had the opportunity to present a summary of the YP Connect Dangerous Ideas mini-hackathon in which 60 young planners and urban designers from around Australia engaged in discussions on the future of technology and data in the planning profession.

We had a great time talking to the urban design masters students at AUDRC last night. It was great to have the opportunity to talk about the evolution of Perth Urbanist and our thoughts on data, design and the role of planning in the future.

Take a look at the possible future of the Perth Skyline in this video posted by the City of Perth. This Development Application video has been created from the City's award winning 3D City Model and is intended to show all significant Building and Development Applications currently approved within the City of Perth boundary. With the 3D City Model being an integral part of the City's Planning and Development assessment process, detailed 3D models are now required to be submitted as part of any new major development application.

The coloured 3D models shown in these videos are 'Built Form' models only, showing the overall scale, form and location of all approved major developments.

A proposed $25 million public private partnership will see the Art Gallery of Western Australia rooftop transformed into an outdoor cinema, performance and events space and restaurant. The move is seen as a way to attract more visitors back to the museum and the arts, amid falling visitor patronage.

"A WA Labor election commitment to provide $10 million for a major rooftop development at the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) is being regarded as a done deal, with plans unveiled for the makeover. The new rooftop will be accessible after hours by an external lift and will have a newly commissioned work by a major artist, an outdoor art display and a community gathering space."

Its that time again. The Western Australian State Election will be taking place this Saturday. Please visit Perthurbanist.com to check out the Perth Urbanist election overview. Our goal is to provide an overview of the city shaping commitments which have been promised by the major parties should they be in power for the next term of government and a small snapshot of each party's policy stances.

Voters will have their choice over significant infrastructure projects which will shape W.A. for decades to come, despite record high debt and deficit on the back of falling GST and mining revenue, persistent voter apathy, and the spectre of Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party in the Upper House.

It goes without saying that the result of this election will be interesting. With just under 48 hours to go until polling booths open, and your chance to get your hands on a , we are proud to launch the Perth Urbanist election overview.
