Does ageing air-conditioning equipment mean you need to replace everything at once? Usually, no.

For schools, offices and larger commercial properties, air-conditioning systems are often installed and replaced at different stages over many years.

Rather than waiting for major equipment to fail, older systems can be assessed based on their condition, age, reliability, repair history and importance to the building.

This allows replacements to be prioritised and staged over time, helping businesses plan expenditure and reducing the chance of an unexpected breakdown forcing an urgent replacement.

Not every old air conditioner needs replacing today. But it pays to know which ones are likely to become tomorrow’s problem.

When it comes to air conditioning, bigger isn’t always better.

One of the most important parts of installing a new air conditioner is getting the system size right.

An undersized unit can struggle to maintain temperature on hot Perth days, but simply installing a bigger unit isn’t necessarily the answer either.

Room size, ceiling height, insulation, windows, orientation and how the space is used all need to be considered.

A good air-conditioning installation starts before the unit goes on the wall — with selecting the right equipment for the home.

You can take the air con guy out of work, but apparently you can’t stop him looking at air conditioners.

Alan sent us this photo while on holiday in Singapore.

Aside from being an impressive collection of outdoor units, it’s a good reminder of how important proper planning is when designing commercial air conditioning.

Cooling the building is only one consideration. Service access, equipment location, energy efficiency, redundancy, noise and future replacement all need to be thought about.

There’s rarely only one solution. Good HVAC design is about finding the system that makes sense for the building now and over the long term.

Thanks for the holiday content, Alan.

Another solar install underway in Perth ☀️

A well-designed solar system isn't just about putting as many panels on the roof as possible. Panel layout, orientation, shading, system sizing and how the home actually uses power all matter.

Our team handles solar alongside our air conditioning work, giving our customers one team for two of the biggest energy users — and energy savers — in the home.

Thinking about solar, battery storage or upgrading an existing system? Get in touch with Complete Air & Solar.

Cute technician. Questionable qualifications.

Where your outdoor air-conditioning unit is installed actually matters.

Proper airflow, service access, heat rejection and secure mounting all need to be considered when choosing a location.

Poor positioning can reduce efficiency, make future servicing harder and potentially shorten the life of the equipment.

It’s also worth keeping the area around your existing outdoor unit clear of plants, storage and anything else that can restrict airflow.

And despite what Molly’s dog might tell you, the top of the condenser isn’t additional storage space.

🏗️ A lot happens before the ceiling goes on.

This commercial project is starting to come together, with ductwork, mechanical equipment and fittings all taking shape behind the scenes.

Most people only ever see the finished building—but it's the work hidden above the ceiling that determines how well the system performs for years to come.

Whether it's a warehouse, office, school or retail space, we take pride in building commercial HVAC systems properly from day one.

📍 Proudly supporting commercial projects across Perth.

The youngest member of the team is showing a keen interest already... 👷‍♀️❄️

We had a special visitor at the office recently who was determined to find out how air conditioners work.

While she's still a few years away from joining the team, moments like these are a good reminder that behind every installation, service call and commercial project is a family business built on hard work, pride and looking after our customers.

It's not all compressors and pipework around here. Sometimes it's nice to stop for five minutes and enjoy the little things.

From our family to yours, thanks for supporting local.

Out of sight doesn't mean out of mind.

Most people never see the equipment responsible for keeping their workplace comfortable.

Commercial buildings often rely on multiple rooftop air conditioning systems operating every day. Without a structured maintenance program, small issues such as blocked coils, failing fan motors or loose electrical connections can quickly become costly breakdowns.

Regular preventative maintenance helps to:

✔️ Reduce unexpected failures
✔️ Improve energy efficiency
✔️ Extend equipment life
✔️ Minimise disruption to staff and occupants
✔️ Plan repairs before they become emergencies

A well-maintained system is almost always less expensive than an emergency replacement.

At Complete Air Systems, we provide planned preventative maintenance for commercial buildings, schools and industrial facilities throughout Perth, helping our clients maximise the life and performance of their HVAC assets.

If you'd like to discuss a preventative maintenance program for your facility, we'd be happy to help.

Your air conditioner might look clean... but what's hiding inside?

Most homeowners regularly clean or replace their return air filters, but that's only part of the system.

Over time, dust, mould and bacteria can build up on the indoor coil and fan barrel where you can't see them. This can reduce airflow, affect efficiency, create unpleasant odours and, in some cases, impact indoor air quality.

A professional deep clean removes this build-up and helps restore your system's performance.

If your air conditioner has started smelling musty, isn't cooling like it used to, or it's been a few years since it was professionally cleaned, it might be time to have it checked.
