New from Legrand: Ionisation and Photoelectric Smoke Alarms
24/10/2014
Legrand has added two new smoke alarms to their range – Ionisation and Photoelectric. Ionisation and Photoelectric smoke alarms function in different ways, understanding how they function and where they are suitable is important for fire protection.

Legrand Photoelectric Smoke Alarm Cat No 643085
A Photoelectric smoke alarm is more effective at detecting smouldering fires, especially those that are started in areas away from the actual smoke alarm. The Photoelectric smoke alarm detects visible particles of combustion that make up smoke, e.g. smouldering cigarette smoke. It responds to a wide range of fires, but is particularly responsive to smouldering fires and the dense smoke given off by foam filled furnishings or overheated PVC wiring.

Ionisation smoke alarms are more effective at detecting flaming fires. Ionisation smoke alarms detect invisible particles of combustion, e.g. from cooking toast. They activate more quickly for fast, flaming fires with little visible smoke.
