Meet the owners: Steven.

Steven co-founded Rapid Asbestos Removals with his long-time friend James, and he's still on site today.

He brings close to 20 years of full-time experience, including extensive HAZMAT experience and qualifications from demanding, high-pressure team roles. He also holds a diploma in Business Management.

Being owner-operated means one of the owners is on site for every job. When you work with us, you get the owner's direct number, and the person who quoted your job is the person accountable for it.

It keeps communication simple and standards consistent, from the first site visit through to the final paperwork.

Asbestos in the ground.

Asbestos isn't always attached to a building. On older sites, we regularly come across fragments buried in soil, left behind from old fences, demolished sheds or decades-old building waste.

Builders and garden contractors often find it during excavation, footings or garden work, when a shovel turns up broken grey sheeting.

If that happens:
- Stop work in that area
- Don't break, sweep or bag the fragments yourself
- Keep people and machinery away
- Have the material assessed before work resumes

Contaminated soil can spread across a site quickly when machinery keeps moving it around. Getting it assessed early protects your workers and keeps the rest of the project on schedule.

Asbestos removal for fencing contractors.

If you install fences across Perth, you've probably started a job and found the old asbestos fence snapped off below ground level, with small fragments scattered through the soil.

It's one of the most common situations we deal with on fencing projects. Our team removes the bonded (non-friable) asbestos sheeting, including the buried sections, and leaves the line clean and ready for your install.

We can also work around the way you run your jobs:
🔹 Leaving the trench open if you're putting in a brick wall
🔹 Erecting temporary fencing as we go
🔹 Providing removal and disposal documentation for your records

Less digging and fewer surprises for your crew.

Spring renovation season is here.

If you're planning to update a kitchen, bathroom or laundry in an older Perth home, it's worth knowing where asbestos tends to turn up before the first wall comes down.

In pre-1990s homes, we regularly find asbestos in:
🔹 Bathroom and laundry wall sheeting
🔹 Eaves and external fibro cladding
🔹 Vinyl flooring and the adhesive underneath
🔹 Fencing, sheds and roofing

One thing we see time and again: homeowners and trades often don't realise a material contains asbestos until the work has already started. You can't confirm asbestos by looking at it, so testing before you disturb anything is the safest first step.

Testing is free when we complete the removal work for you.

Understanding asbestos in a building

Asbestos was widely used in construction for decades, which means many older buildings across WA may still contain asbestos materials.

It can be found in roofing, walls, flooring, insulation, and even adhesives. The key risk comes when these materials are disturbed, releasing harmful fibres into the air.

If your building contains ACM (asbestos-containing materials), it doesn’t always mean immediate danger. But any renovation, maintenance, or damage needs to be handled carefully and professionally.

Knowing where asbestos may be hiding and what to do next is essential for keeping your property safe and compliant.

What is a popcorn ceiling?

Popcorn ceilings, also known as textured or acoustic ceilings, were commonly used in homes built before the 1990s.

They have a rough, bumpy finish and were popular for hiding imperfections and reducing noise.

The concern is that some older popcorn ceilings may contain asbestos. If disturbed during renovations, repairs, or removal, harmful fibres can be released into the air.

If your home has a popcorn ceiling and you’re planning any work, it’s important to have it tested before touching it.

Asbestos information: What you need to know

Asbestos was widely used in Australian buildings for decades due to its strength and affordability. If your property was built or renovated before 31 December 2003, there’s a strong chance asbestos may be present.

In WA, over 90% of homes built before 1984 contained asbestos materials, often in roofing, walls, flooring, and more.

The risk comes when asbestos is disturbed. Fibres can become airborne and lead to serious diseases like asbestosis and mesothelioma, often decades after exposure.

If you’re planning any work on your property, always check before you disturb materials.

Where can asbestos be hiding in your property?

Many people think asbestos is only found in walls or roofing. In reality, it can be present in a wide range of materials, especially in properties built before the 1990s.

Common places we see asbestos across Perth include:
- Eaves, soffits, and external cladding
- Fencing and sheds
- Roofing and gutters
- Vinyl flooring and carpet underlay
- Bathroom sheeting and laundries
- Old switchboards and backing boards

The challenge is that asbestos often looks like other materials. You can’t confirm it just by sight.

If you’re planning renovations, demolitions, or even small upgrades, testing before disturbing materials is essential.

If you’re unsure, get it checked properly. It’s the safest way to avoid unnecessary risk.
