🚙 GAS HOSE BAN: Are you a keen camper with a gas cooker fitted into your vehicle’s drawer system? If so, we’re urging you to check the gas hose straight away.

Due to a risk of injury from gas leaking and igniting, the energy safety regulator has banned the use, sale and hire of a gas hose assembly designed to connect LPG cylinders to cookers fitted into the drawers of utes, 4WDs and similar vehicles.

The issue? If the LPG cylinder valve is left open, gas can freely flow from the end of the hose that connects to the appliance – even when it’s not attached to the cooker.

⚠ If your hose looks exactly like the one below, stop using it immediately and contact the retailer or installer to discuss options. ⚠

How do I know if I have the banned hose?
ℹ The ban applies to a braided stainless-steel hose with diagonal yellow stripes.
ℹ It’s a flexible hose that’s 135cm long.
ℹ One end of the hose has a metal male bayonet connection – the “push and twist” type that you would normally see on portable gas space heaters in your home.
ℹ The other end of the hose has a typical connection used for LPG cylinders – either Type 27 (LCC27) or Type 21 (POL).

We have noticed a current influx of people wanting to or already have installed bidet toilet seats or do**he spray guns. This technical note from the plumbers licensing board clarifies the requirement for backflow prevention if a 25mm air gap cannot be achieved. ( in almost every case the air gap can’t be achieved). The air gap is taken from the water outlet and the overflow point of the toilet pan. This also means the length of the do**he spray gun hose has to be short enough to end 25mm above the level of the pan.

So please note if you wish to have a spray gun or bidet seat installed you will require a high level backflow prevention device (RPZD). These valves are quite expensive to install and require annual testing so please take this into consideration before buying a do**he spray or bidet seat.
