The Texan frackers determined to get a foot in the door of the Kimberley just got dealt another blow — with the federal government deciding that Black Mountain will be subject to scrutiny for their impacts on water, threatened species, migratory species and the National Heritage- listed Martuwarra Fitzroy River. Knowing what we know, there's no way this project should go ahead. The final decision will be Tanya Plibersek's but she has seen how many people across WA and Australia want this project scrapped!

Today we announced the West End Brewery site will be renamed the suburb of Southwark - as it was back in 1881.

The old suburb is what Southwark Bitter and the Southwark Hotel is named after. Had a good chat today with Verity and Sam, the operators of the family run pub, who like the nod to history as we move into the future.

Up to 1300 homes will be built on the site, with more green space being added to publicly accessible land on the southern side of the Torrens. First homes become available next year in a great location.

Queensland is set to permanently ban proposed carbon capture and storage projects in the Great Artesian Basin.

This move follows a decision by the state Environment Department last week, declaring Glencore's project “not suitable to proceed” due to potential risks to the precious groundwater resources in the Great Artesian Basin. It's a clear message: we won't gamble with our vital water supplies.

AgForce chief executive Michael Guerin said he welcomed Mr Miles’s decision but the Albanese government needed to follow his leadership with a similar ban across the entire basin. “The Great Artesian Basin can’t be saved by the Queensland Premier,’’ he said.

“It is a water resource that sits under three states and one territory and the federal government needs to … ban any similar proposal across the country.

“It is a matter of national environmental significance’’.
