This is definitely NOT what you want to find sitting in your backyard!

During a recent visit to a customers house he showed us this huge termite nest he had discovered on top of his compost. The combination of moisture, organic material and timber around the area created an ideal environment for termites to move in and get comfortable.

Termites don’t always announce themselves by damaging your house first - they can establish nests in gardens, compost areas, tree stumps and other areas around your property before making their way towards structures.

🔎 Our tip: Keep timber, garden waste and compost areas away from the house where possible, and keep an eye out for mud tubes, damaged timber or unusual termite activity.

When the wood comes away… 👀🐜

What looked like old timber simply stored against the side of the building turned out to be hiding something much more concerning.

Once Lucas removed the timber, he found termite trails and active termites making their way along the brickwork. 😳

This is a great reminder that storing timber, garden waste or other wood directly against your building can create the perfect conditions for termites to go unnoticed.
