📣 Exciting Announcement!

We are very excited to be involved in supporting Birrarung Riverfest. Riverfest a vibrant, three‑week community festival celebrating the Yarra—known traditionally as the Birrarung—as a living, cultural, and ecological entity. Each September, the Yarra Riverkeeper Association, who host over 60 events spanning from the river’s source to its mouth—from guided walks and storytelling to art installations, wildlife spotting, planting, and paddling adventures.

This year the festival will happen from September 6th to September 28th and there is something for everyone at Riverfest.

The festival aims to acknowledge the lifeblood of our city, Our Yarra, Birrarung: one living entity, cared for by many, caring for all. Birrarung is under pressure from city growth, climate change, and stormwater pollution. Now more than ever, our living entity needs our care and the festival encourages us all to consider how we can act now for a healthy, protected, loved Yarra, Birrarung.

One unique highlight is a panel discussion titled “Our Yarra Birrarung: Who’s Caring for Who?”, part of the World Rivers Day Finale at Birrarung Riverfest (Sunday, September 28, 2025), featuring a thoughtful lineup of voices:

🌱 Dr Mandy Nicholson, Wurundjeri woman, multidisciplinary artist, and educator
🌱Chris Chesterfield, Chair of the Birrarung Council
🌱 Brendan Condon, Co‑founder and Managing Director of Australian Ecosystems, Regen Nurseries and Foodcube
🌱 Sophie Hart, Wildlife and Conservation student and emerging environmental activist
🌱 Janet Bolitho, President of the Yarra Riverkeeper Association, who will be hosting the session

How do Wetlands support our Housing communities?

This video with Rory Costelloe from Villawood Properties, and Brendan Condon from Australian Ecosystems discuss this in the context of one of our favourite projects, Delaray Wetlands at Aquarevo, along Clyde Creek.

Why we love wetlands;

👟 Including well-implemented wetlands into our communities provides people with access to nature, as well as a place to connect with others, and opportunities for an active lifestyle.

🧠 When we immerse ourselves in nature, i.e. observing biodiverse wildlife, listening to birds, we begin to feel more connected to nature, and can bring about a positive mindset.

đź’¦ Wetlands act like kidneys, slowing stormwater pulses, and treating our hard surface runoff prior to entering our sensitive waterways.

🌱 Well designed wetlands with shallower planting benches, high plant coverage and meandering waterflows assists in plant survival and filtering out contaminants from stormwater runoff
