At Atelier 1:7, we love creating bespoke luxury designs, but we love, just as much, to research simple, more affordable construction methods, and design within their parameters. We strongly believe that architecture is for everyone on every budget. Whether it be a $5m house or a $600K house, we work the same way and get just as much pleasure out it.

Contrary to popular belief, an architecturally designed home is not more expensive. When we design a low budget project, the fundamental qualities of architecture never change and can still be just as rich. As the late Luigi Snozzi once said, our role as architects has always been to define the limits of space, because this is the centre of architecture. Man needs emptiness.

We design the emptiness; the materials we use to define it, as well as construction methodology, are variable. So, regardless of budget, we strive to create places of meaning, for our clients, the environment and our city.

We are excited to have our Caulfield house featured in the latest Grand Designs Australia

Grand Designs Australia Magazine issue 11.3 is out NOW!

This edition has a focus on renovation; with spring in the air, it is only fitting that change is the theme of this issue!

Our Extending Up and Out feature will give you the inspiration you need to kick start your own reno project, whether you need to accommodate a growing family, the work-from-home life, or add value with intention to sell. We explore the latest and best roofing choices and materials that will ensure your home is well-protected for many years to come.

And in addition to showcasing some of the best residences in Australia today, we take a look inside the first two houses from the new season of Grand Designs Australia – if you love what you’ve been seeing on the show, we go into more detail about these homes and how they were brought to life in the magazine 🤫

There is so much to look forward to in the new Grand Design Australia Magazine, so what are you waiting for?

The latest edition of the GDA Magazine is on sale now at your local Supermarket, Newsagents, or shop the link in the bio!

Caulfield South extension.
We added a storey to this 1980 double brick home in Caulfield South. The brief called for an absolute minimum intervention to the ground floor interior and external walls, paint colour and windows to be left entirely untouched. Challenge accepted! Stay tuned for more images
