Our inspector came across this creative yet dangerous solution to a missing air conditioning installation’s internal head unit cover plate - they turned off the power immediately due to risk of electric shock and fire.

Instead of getting the missing part replaced, the property owner covered it up with duct tape. This installation was mounted in the living room, above a couch and anyone can easily climb up onto the couch, remove the duct tape, and come into contact with live, energised parts.

Remember, always hire a licensed electrician to do any electrical work. A licensed electrician will be able to source the manufacturer’s recommended parts or fabricate and fit replacement panels and test the repair to make sure the equipment and repair is electrically safe. Hello everyone, just a reminder to always check your phone chargers for exposed wires and never have the cords near bedding! Great reminder for all. Stay safe 🙂

Charging devices on or near beds and rolling up electric blankets are two of the most common causes of fires, which become increasingly common in winter as the temperatures drop.

Don't hesitate to contact us if you require your workplace equipment to be "tested and tagged". Remember this process has to occur regularly to ensure your equipment is safe.

When was the last time your business tested your safety switches? RCDs in workplaces must be tested regularly by a competent person to ensure they operate in an electrical incident and respond quickly. Intervals for testing are determined by consulting the Electrical Safety Regulation (Part 6 division 6) and Australian Standard AS/NZS 3760:2010.
