To-do lists can burn. The Arthur River shack fixed-up, restored and improved. Enjoyed every minute living and working in the incredible Arthur-Pieman Conservation area surrounded by sand dunes covered in native Manuka bush, all kinds of wildlife, ancient rainforest, the river, the ocean and the rolling green hills of Marrawah. Such an incredible area, I look forward to promoting the shack as a place to stay so people can enjoy everything the remote North West of Tasmania has to offer.

Mostly 'after' pics in this post, but there's some 'before' one's scattered through as well. A few small jobs to get done before it's listed on all the usual short term holiday rental sites.

Will post listing details when it's ready. ⚓️

A few different projects all running in parallel at this point and nothing really complete. Looking forward to a few weeks time when I can start pulling everything together and actually placing a well earned tick against each of the jobs. ✔️

In between working and looking for my dogs there's been time to explore the 4WD trails, beaches and Arthur River itself. Such a wild environment. Home to protected 100's of years old cold climate rainforest and the incredible white bellied sea eagle among so much other wildlife. 🦅

After a few weeks scratching my head, doing small jobs and thinking about where to start, there's projects underway. Two of them are big ones: the boundary fence and deck extension with entrance stairs. Local dairy farmers Heath and Adam rolled up this morning with their tractor and smashed out 105 linear meters of wallaby fencing in 1 day. Legends!

Slightly different type of project for Edge, but in many ways exactly what I love doing; transforming tired and neglected spaces to make them usable and enjoyable again.

Escaped the natural disasters on the mainland just in time to make my way down to this quintessential holiday shack on the remote far north west coast of Tasmania.

The plan is to create an Airbnb Shack / Hipcamp Freecamp combo as there's enough room for 4 caravans on the level part of the block.

Welcome to the Arthur River Shack transformation. 😁

This lakeside property in Wooloweyah has open outside spaces front and back. The challenge was to create an enclosed area that is secure for the dogs but doesn't interfere with the lake views and open feel of the home.

The side fence is a solid paling fence creating a boundary with the neighbour. Out the back to the lake is a lower level rural style fence with tough black mesh. The mesh disappears into the background of gum trees, palms and the stunning lake frontage. Down either side of the house are more gates in the same style. The front of the property remains open to the street.

The backyard is now a safe and usable space for humans and dogs. 🐶

Kicking the year off with a nice little fence building job in Wooloweyah. Enclosing the outside space to keep doggos in without ruining the lakefront views. Farm style timber fence and gal steel gates front and back. Treated pine paling fence on the boundary with the neighbour.

Decking, landscaping & entrance stairs completed in the Robertson Rainforest. In a La Nina year, working in the southern highlands in the rainforest with timber can be challenging... everything is constantly damp or just soaking wet! But great clients lending a hand with timber treatments, painting and a coffee in hand every morning made it all possible. There are only a few small pockets of rainforest remaining around Robertson. It's a unique and stunning environment that private landowners are now responsible for conserving. The deck immerses the owners & their guests into the environment, allowing them to experience the incredible transformation the forest goes through over just a few hours... it really is an experience unlike anything else. The multiple zones and levels offering limitless options for entertainment, relaxation, a performance, a party or just a place to sit with a glass of wine and enjoy being exactly where you are.

Landscape design is a flexible and organic process. From original sketch things change; it's how these projects go every single time. That being said, the original sketch and the conversations and concept sharing process leading up to drawing the outline of the plan are critical to achieving the right design for the clients and the space. In this case there were a few layout adjustments along the way, but the 70sqm area of timber decking remained true to plan and nested seamlessly into the rainforest environment.

Work nearing the final stages on this misty and wet Robertson Rainforest afternoon. It's the best time to experience the rainforest, under light rainfall... brings everything to life.

Foundation structures for the Entrance Stairs dug into the steep slope and set in concrete with Gal Steel Supports. Each step needed retaining with rocks and treated timber edging under the frame. Tested in recent heavy rain before covering with Blackbutt Decking boards. Boards now screwed down, fronts and sides for 11 of the steps still to go. Almost done. Then onto the pond edge, deck and pergola.

Work begins on the Robertson Rainforest House. Starting with Entrance Stairs, Front Entrance Paving, then on into the Garden to build a large half-covered, multi-level Deck & Pergola.

Loving working in one of the remaining areas of Robbo Rainforest. Such a unique and vibrant environment... even in -2 degree mornings. Brrrr!!
