Two quotes for ""the same tree"" can be a long way apart, and both can be legitimate. Here's what actually moves the price.
β Access β can machinery reach the tree, or does every piece have to be carried out through a gate or over a house? Tight access means more time and more manual handling
β Height, spread and condition β bigger trees take longer, and dead or decayed timber is unpredictable, which means slower, more careful sectional work
β What's around it β houses, fences, powerlines, pools and a neighbour's property. A tree in an open paddock and a tree over a roof are very different jobs
β Equipment β climbing, EWP, grapple excavator, crane. The right machine makes a job safer and often faster, but it has to be brought to site
β Clean-up β chipping, hauling, keeping timber for milling or firewood, leaving the site clear. Check what's included
β The stump β grinding is often priced separately. Ask whether it's in the quote
β Permits and reports β depending on your council's planning controls, a tree may need a permit before it can be removed or pruned. Reports and applications add time and cost
β Urgency β an emergency callout is a different job to one scheduled in advance
A quote you can compare should spell out the scope of work, what happens to the debris and the stump, insurance, and who is responsible for any permit. If any of that is missing, you're not comparing like with like.
