Today we say a big THANK YOU to Rod “Rocket” Kenney who we wish all the best on his next journey as he starts his long service leave before moving into retirement.
Rocket started working for us in 1982 as a truck driver in a T Line 2670. He took a personal interest in the trucks he drove, and they always presented in A1 condition and assisted in growing the reputation of our trucking business to be well recognised on the open highway. He drove the first truck to be painted in what has become our fleet colours called Mr Rick. We now up to the 4th Mr Rick which shows how long Rocket has worked for us.
As our fleet grew, we needed someone to coordinate our trucks to achieve the best fleet utilisation and complement the demands of delivering our fortnightly quotas. Rod was chosen to assist Trevor Work (Bush Foreman) and take on the role of managing the delivery of around 600,000 tonnes of mainly pine to various distribution points through a combination of Skel trucks, B-Doubles, totalling around 22 prime movers and 22 drivers all with individual personalities.
From the co-ordinating of trucks to then assisting with coupe management and relief operating on harvesters and forwarders Rocket has covered all aspects of our business. He was an important part of the building of our company.
Rocket has seen the local industry move from hand fallers to full mechanisation harvesters with optimisation.
When there was a change with the ownership of the plantation Rocket wanted to take a step back and moved into a forwarder. The standards he kept his truck was then moved to the machines where he became a very productive operator. He never looked to be moving fast but was always steady and willing to put the hours in. After bouncing over stumps for over 10 years, he asked to move into the loader. With his transport coordination past was a great asset in seeing the work from the bush side not just the truckies perspective. He has been on the loader for the past 5 odd years and has never been late whether that be to load a truck or be loaded.
Rod’s commitment to the job is second to none, he was and is dedicated to the best outcome of the Leeson organisation.
We thank Rocket for his commitment and loyalty shown to our company and wish him all the best going forward.
