This Paddington terrace underwent a major transformation, and we think the result speaks for itself. Full height steel bifold doors open out to the courtyard bringing the outside in, flooding the kitchen with natural light and lush greenery. The marble island with its softened curved ends anchors the space.

More to come from this one.

While we were in Tasmania, we visited MONA for the first time and it genuinely stopped us both.

From above, the building barely registers. Descend three levels into the sandstone cliff and the scale of what's been built there is confronting. The off-form concrete, Corten steel, a coffered ceiling grid that repeats until it becomes almost overwhelming. No softening, no concession, just a clear design position, without apology.

In my view, one of the most interesting buildings I have ever visited. Worth the trip to Tasmania alone.

Four days. 48km.

Bec and I recently took a walk along the Tasmania's Three Capes Track.

The huts along this trail, designed by give you everything you need, nothing you don't. Prefabricated off-site and delivered by helicopter at 800kg a load, they sit in the landscape without competing with it.

Day three finds you questioning the decision somewhere around kilometre 30. But arriving at the hut each evening, tired and earning it, delivers the kind of satisfaction that no shortcut can manufacture. Not sure I can say we came back physically refreshed, but it certainly helped the mind.

For our team at Newmark, executing this project was a complex dance. Navigating access for off-form concrete pours while ensuring flawless junctions where new structural elements meet centuries-old neighbouring wall, all while integrating textured facades and curated roof planting. High-stakes structural engineering meets refined craftsmanship.

We’re proud to have brought this vision to life.

Wrapping up our series on Darlinghurst House with another look at the external ex*****on. On a constrained corner site like this, the logistical dance of the build is just as complex as the design itself.

The success of the project is visible here in the junctions, where off-form concrete meets the laneway asphalt, and where new brickwork aligns with heritage neighbors. It’s about delivering a level of finish that feels both contemporary and entirely at home in its environment.

We’re proud to have brought this vision to life.

High-end residential construction is often defined by the junctions you don’t see. Executing this off-form concrete spine required rigorous coordination. From the internal coil tie set outs to the seamless transition where the concrete meets the recessed shadow-line of the timber flooring.

In this light-filled void, the shadows on the raw masonry surfaces change throughout the day. For the Newmark team, delivering this level of finish on a constrained inner-city site is about the intersection of engineering and fine-scale craftsmanship.

A study in clean junctions. This quiet, productive corner relies on precise ex*****on where disparate elements meet.

The focus was on the flush integration of the wide-span sliding window track and the alignment of the custom, full-length desk sill. We ensure the complex structural coordination remains invisible so that the result is a serene, character-filled environment optimized for focus.

The kitchen at Darlinghurst House is an exercise in tactile contrast. We’ve brought together the raw, tectonic weight of crazy-paved stone and bagged brickwork against the high-refinement of figured marble and stainless steel.

For Newmark, the beauty is in the junctions. Transitioning from the industrial language of the off-form concrete ceiling to the delicate grain of the custom joinery requires a level of site discipline that ensures every element feels intentional. It’s a space built for the rigors of daily life, without sacrificing architectural poise.

In dense urban settings, the rear lane is often relegated to utility. At Darlinghurst House, the architecture celebrates it.

This view from the kitchen intentionally frames the lane's textured brickwork and raw character, creating a curated backdrop that anchors the home in its specific context. The deep sill transforms the threshold from a simple window into a living edge, balancing the grit of the alley with the refined warmth of the interior.

In a dense urban context, luxury is defined by the ability to breathe. This bedroom terrace serves as a private aperture, utilising hit-and-miss brickwork to invite airflow and dappled light while maintaining a necessary veil of privacy from the street.

By extending stone flooring from the internal threshold out to the edge, the room feels double its size—capturing the "borrowed landscape" of the neighboring canopy. A quiet, elevated sanctuary in the heart of the city.
