A man who posed as a licensed builder, used another person’s licence number and took more than $90,000 from home owners has been convicted in the Ipswich Magistrates Court. He was fined and ordered to repay $70,000, with jail a possibility if he fails to meet payment deadlines.

This case is a stark reminder: checking a licence name alone isn’t enough. The offender shared the same name as a legitimate licensee and deliberately exploited that confusion.

QBCC digital licences include a photo of the licence holder. While optional, digital licences allow consumers to check that the person they are dealing with matches the photo, confirm the licence is current and ensure it aligns with the work being carried out.

2. Grinding Floors for Tiling . We grind the floors to create an even and clean surface, essential for effective tile adhesion. This step helps prevent tiles from cracking or lifting over time. 3.Tiling from floor to ceiling over existing painted surfaces is often not recommended due to a few reasons:

1. Adhesion Issues : Paint can act as a barrier that prevents tiles from adhering properly, increasing the risk of tiles coming loose over time.

2. Surface Stability : Painted surfaces might not be stable enough to hold the weight of tiles, especially if the paint is old or not well-adhered to the surface beneath.

3. Moisture Problems : Paint doesn't provide the necessary water-resistant barrier that cement backer boards or similar surfaces offer, potentially leading to moisture problems, especially in areas like bathrooms or kitchens.
