The existing failed concrete retaining wall replaced with a new concrete sleeper retaining wall using Charcoal block concrete sleepers.

Another failed retaining wall replaced and built properly to last.

This project came with its fair share of challenges:
• Tight access from start to finish
• Extremely Weathered Rock (EWR) encountered throughout excavation
• Constant rain throughout the project causing delays and difficult site conditions
• Engineered retaining wall ranging from 600mm up to 2.0m in height
• Jackhammer assist required to speed up excavation through the EWR
• Two excavators onsite drilling piers simultaneously to keep the project moving despite the difficult ground conditions

Our team worked through some challenging conditions, completing all excavation, bored piers, drainage, backfilling and installation of the new engineered retaining wall system.

The result is a strong, modern retaining wall designed to withstand the site conditions and provide long-term structural support.

Another engineered retaining wall completed by Sire Landscape Construction 👑

This project involved the demolition of an existing failed timber retaining wall and fence, with an additional hidden boulder wall discovered behind the original structure that also required removal.

The new engineered retaining wall was constructed at 2.2m high using concrete sleepers with 150UC23 galvanised steel posts at 1600mm centres, including doubled-up sleepers at the base for additional strength and durability.

With limited access and a slight slope across the site, the build came with its challenges. Excavation encountered Extremely Weathered Rock (EWR) throughout, requiring dedicated rock augers and jackhammer assist to achieve engineer specified depths.

Out with the old and in with the new 👌

We recently completed the replacement of an existing failed hardwood timber retaining wall with a new smooth plain grey concrete sleeper retaining wall in Shailer Park.

Works included:
• Demolition and removal of the old retaining wall and timber fence
• Installation of new concrete sleeper retaining wall
• New Colorbond fence installed with concrete plinth at the base
• New drainage pit installation
• Turf installation to finish the area off cleanly

👑 The end result came up an absolute treat and the client was extremely happy with the finished product.

Another quality project wrapped up in Hawthorne, Brisbane — and this one had its challenges.

We completed a 100m+ concrete sleeper retaining wall, replacing an existing reinforced concrete wall that was built with universal columns throughout. Due to the structure, the demo required rock breaking large sections the entire length — not a light job.

To keep things moving efficiently and save the client time and money, the Sire team ran:
✔ 2x Excavators
✔ Skid Steer for fast material handling

This site wasn’t your average job either — positioned on a main road with a bus stop and CityCat ferry terminal nearby, meaning tight access, constant traffic and zero room for error.

Scope of works included:
• Full demolition of existing reinforced wall
• Rock breaking through footings and columns
• Construction of new concrete sleeper retaining wall (100m+)
• New driveway installation
• Rectification of failed stormwater lines
• Finished off with gloss black posts for a sharp, modern look

👑This project presented significant hurdles, notably the limited site access, unstable reactive red clay soil conditions and the presence of council infrastructure adjacent to both retaining walls. These constraints necessitated the use of vacuum excavation and a considerable amount of manual labor during construction.
To ensure the stability of the neighboring bank and prevent any complications, we strategically divided the project into two stages. We're pleased to report that the entire project progressed smoothly from start to finish.
