There’s nothing quite like the feeling of a morning harvest. Check out this awesome harvest from our very own Wilmot Road Primary School garden! 🥬🫑
We’ve got some leafy silverbeet and a fantastic variety of peppers—from deep green bell peppers to some really cool striped varieties that look cool 🔥 But they are hot. 🔥 🌱 Fresh from the Soil at Wilmot Road P.S.

If you need me, I’ll be in the dirt! 🌿 Digging in at Wilmot Road Primary School today volunteering for the Lighthouse Project.
The veggie garden is looking great—we’ve got capsicums, spinach, and strawberries all on the way. 🫑🍃 Not a bad way to spend a arvo, right?
If anyone else is looking to give back to the community, I can’t recommend this project enough!

🌿 Big Pruning Job Today! ✂️
Today was one of those well overdue hedge jobs — several Lilly Pillies and shrubs that had really taken off and gotten a bit out of control!
This wasn’t a light tidy-up… this was a proper cut back. The Lilly Pillies had grown tall, wide and leggy, so they were reduced in height and pulled back hard to bring them back into shape and make the hedge manageable again. They might look a bit bare straight after a prune like this, but Lilly Pillies are tough plants and respond very well once they push their new growth.
By cutting them back firmly you: • reset the height
• encourage thick new shoots
• remove old woody growth
• bring the hedge back to a neat screening plant again

Ive just popped into check on the Wilmot Road Primary School veggie garden where I volunteer my time.

💧 Water Early, Grow Strong 🌱

With these hot days rolling in, one of the best things you can do for your veggie patch is water early in the morning – before the real heat kicks in.

Early watering allows moisture to soak deep into the soil where the roots need it most, instead of evaporating straight off in the sun. It also helps plants handle the heat better through the day, reduces stress, and can even prevent issues like wilting and poor fruit set.

Watering early also means leaves have time to dry, which lowers the risk of disease compared to watering late in the day.

So set the alarm a little earlier, grab the hose or turn on the irrigation, and give your veggies the best start to a hot day. Your tomatoes, cucumbers, and greens will thank you! 🌞🥒🍅

Happy gardening!
