We’re now averaging at least one call a week about prefabricated structures and modified shipping containers being advertised as a “house”.

In our latest publication, we outlined why many of these structures do not meet the Building Act and therefore cannot be approved for use as a habitable building.

With more companies importing these units from overseas and selling them across the coast and Tasmania, it’s important to choose carefully. Make sure you:
• Know exactly what you’re buying
• Do your due diligence on the supplier; or
• Request building approval before purchase

You’ll quickly find out whether the structure is compliant or not.
