Getting texts about cheap home batteries? You’re not the only one.

Battery offers are everywhere in Victoria right now, and a lot of them look too good to be true. Before you reply “1”, ask these four questions:

1. Is that the real price? Does it include the inverter, installation, switchboard work and blackout backup?
2. Will anyone actually come out to inspect your home and switchboard before you sign?
3. What battery is it? Who backs the warranty here in Australia?
4. Who’s installing it? Ask for their name and battery accreditation number.

If they can’t answer all four, keep looking.

A solar battery is a 10 year decision. The cheapest quote isn’t always the cheapest battery once everything’s added.

Ben won the solar and battery in our $75k giveaway, and this week the crew switched him on. By 3:26 in the afternoon his 16kWh Sigenergy battery was full and his 6.6kW AIKO solar system was still sending power back to the grid. That’s on an 18 degree October day.

The good bit happens after sunset. While most homes start buying power in the evening, Ben’s house runs on the sunshine it stored during the day.

Most people shopping for solar compare panels and batteries, which makes sense. But two homes can have the exact same gear and get very different results depending on how it's designed and installed.

This system is 43 Jinko Tiger Neo panels, 45kWh of Sigenergy battery storage and a 22kW Sigenergy EV charger. Before anything went on the roof, we sized it around how the household actually uses power, planned the layout and cable runs, and made sure the switchboard was ready for it. Then it was tested and set up properly before handover.

Dawn in Seaford was paying around $184 a month for power. Her last bill was $35.60.

Same house. Same family. The only thing that changed is where her power comes from.
