Another call-out on the Mornington Peninsula this week.

We attended a property where the Fused Overhead Line Connection Box (FOLCB) had started melting, which is something that can quickly become a serious safety issue.

Luckily, the client acted quickly and contacted United Energy’s emergency hotline (132 099) to have the supply safely disconnected.

Once the power was isolated, we attended site and replaced the damaged FOLCB, before coordinating with United Energy to have the overhead service safely restored.

If you ever notice burning smells, melted service equipment or anything unusual with your overhead connection, it’s important to have it checked as soon as possible.

Quick lighting upgrade for Balnarring Storms new training facility.

We removed the okd sodium vapour highbay lights that were well past their prime and replaced with brand new Pierlite eco LED highbays, for better efficiency, improved visibility and a much longer life span.

A big job wrapped up this week on the Mornington Peninsula for the Southside Electrical Contractors crew.
We dug 180m of trench, ran 360m of electrical + NBN conduit, installed 50m of sub-main, completed a switchboard upgrade for the existing dwelling and fitted a group meter panel set up for 3-phase for the 3 new lots and one existing plus single-phase supply for future communal lighting.

Another successful project helping build the future infrastructure of our local area.

CLOSE CALL!
Had a call out to one of our loyal customers yesterday.

A Residual Current Device (RCD) was tripping intermittently, which was making working from home life quite difficult.
What was first thought by the client as an overloading issue turned more serious when we attended site and started looking at the source of the concern in the switchboard.

Found was a loose connection on the neutral side of the RCD and another at one of the protected neutral bars and the switchboard was a mess from previous installations.
The heat from these loose connections had melted the insulation from the affected wires and protected neautral bar and burnt out the RCD as seen in photo, which had the potential to cause a switchbiard fire in the next coming days/weeks.

We replaced the RCD’s with individual RCD/CB’s giving each circuit it’s very own circuit protection device, tidied up all the excess cabling, ensured every termination was now tight and installed correctly and restored power to the clients home.

If your home is having power issues, it may seem minor from the outside, but always best to seek professional advice.

Big week this week for the SSEC crew with the start of stage 2 of the Martha Cove boardwalk redevelopment package with coastal constructions which involves nearly 2 kms of boardwalk replacement with the disconnection and reconnection of the existing boardwalk lighting.

We’ve stepped back earlier this week to help out our mates at JD Electrical Solutions after their fearless leader took a tumble and injured himself.
Jarrad always steps up and helps us out whenver needed so it’s nice to give back.

Todays underground conduit installation for a mains up grade in bittern with Watts Excavations And Civil trenching, backfilling and trimming the site ,and solar inverter removal.

Pendant lighting job we completed earlier this month, existing pendant had definitely served it purpose over the last few years but the new owners felt it was time for an upgrade.
So we removed the existing pendant and wired and installed 3 new pendants filling the void in this amazing space.

Wednesday’s switch board upgrade.

Had the task of upgrading this old non-compliant ceramic fuse switchboard that had no RCD protection.
Upon further inspection we found that rodents had chewed through the double insulation of some of the wiring, leaving exposed live conductors that posed an electrical hazard as well as a fire risk.

Southside Electrical Contractors removed the damaged cabling, replaced the switchboard with individual residual current circuit breakers (RCBO’s) to protect the electrical circuits and fire sealed all open penetration’s to reduce the risk of electrical hazards during house fires and to keep out vermin.
