According to Australian Standard AS/NZS 3500.1, the static water pressure in a house must be between 50 kPa and 500 kPa at any outlet, except for fire service outlets. The pressure should ideally be at least 150 kPa at all outlets for proper appliance function. If the incoming pressure is above 500 kPa, a pressure limiting valve (PLV) is mandatory for new installations to prevent damage to pipes and appliances

So ALWAYS keep an eye on your flexi hoses. As soon as you see rust appearing on them, have them replaced and prevent your house being flooded!!

One of THE MOST common plumbing issues I come across….people opening the cupboard and smelling gas!!! When the plumber who installed the appliance didn’t do a proper job, didn’t bother pressure testing the gas line, didn’t issue a compliance certificate for the work they did!!!!

Toilet constantly running? Toilet constantly dripping water and then filling back up?

The flush washer will be the culprit!! It’s a thin rubber gasket that creates a water tight seal controlling water flow from the cistern into the toilet bowl. Over time they become worn and start to perish. This will cause a constant running sound or an unexplained increase in your water bill.

Low water pressure? Not enough water pressure in your shower?

AUS/NZS standards state that the static water pressure in your house should not exceed 500kpa. Therefore it is important to have a pressure reducing valve installed just after your water meter to prevent any damage to your pipes or fixtures in the house.

Quite often these pressure reducing valves fail due to internal wear and tear from age, sediment and mineral deposits from water, and damage from pressure surges or water hammer. Dirt, debris, corrosion, failing springs and worn seals also prevent the valve from regulating pressure correctly, causing it to leak or fail basically reducing your water flow in your house to just a trickle!!!
