PROJECT COMPLETION // Bethesda Clinic

We were privileged to have the opportunity to work with Bethesda Health Care to design and deliver the Bethesda Clinic, the first private mental health facility south of the Swan River. Stage 1 of the facility, which was recently opened by the Minister of Health Amber-Jade Sanderson, has 45 hotel-style bedrooms and a large therapy centre which provides day therapy treatments. Stage 2 is due for completion in June 2023 and includes a further 30 bedrooms, as well as a state-of-the-art procedure suite for Electroconvulsive Therapy and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. Together with Bethesda Clinic’s community outreach programs and telemedicine, the facility provides a comprehensive mental health service for the community.

Designing a multi-storey contemporary mental health facility to meet the objectives was highly challenging and rewarding. The delivered facility is a great testament to the outstanding collaboration of the entire team and we wish Bethesda Clinic, and all who receive treatment here, the very best outcomes.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE // Lyell McEwin Hospital Redevelopment

Delivered in collaboration with Cheesman Architects, Silver Thomas Hanley undertook the Health Planning and User Group Consultation for development of internal layouts, working closely with the Cheesman interior design team who were responsible for all interior design.

PROJECT COMPLETION // DPIRD Temporary Labs

Silver Thomas Hanley is excited to share the completion of the temporary laboratories for the The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD).

We are proud to have helped deliver the new state government laboratories in Kensington which were constructed to provide immediate biosecurity and research services to the State’s primary industries while planning is underway for long-term metropolitan facilities.

The new facilities consist of:
- Microbiology laboratory suites 1 & 2
- Microbiology laboratory suite 3 that support gaseous decontamination
- Specimen processing suites 1 & 2
- Laboratory support facilities, sample receival & external storage space
- Reception area and staff amenities
- Audit workspaces and meeting room

The laboratories are classified PC2/BC2 microbiological which provides an essential biosecurity diagnostic service.

The design focused on delivering a quality outcome in the shortest possible time frame. Silver Thomas Hanley and BPA produced the steel shop drawings during the tender period enabling ADCO to commence procurement and production of the steelwork as soon as the contract was awarded.

We were thrilled to have worked alongside DPIRD, ADCO Constructions, Lucid Consulting Australia, and BPA Engineering. The project required a quick turnaround time and the highly collaborative process involved in this unique contract was fundamental to its success.

PROJECT COMPLETION // Coolibah Care, Karri House

Coolibah Care has been the aged care provider of choice for the Mandurah community for over 50 years. The Coolibah Care, Karri House expansion was officially opened at the end of last year and provides the facility with; 21 new residents rooms, a hair salon, new reception with feature entry, commercial kitchen, as well as dining, activity, and lounge spaces.

An important aspect of the expansion was providing the residents with an array of courtyards and outdoor retreat spaces. These external elements now provide the residents with interaction with the natural environment, views to the outside from their rooms and communal spaces, and light filled corridors offering pause points as they travel to dining and activity areas.

The refurbishment of the existing facility and the new Karri House expansion provides a more efficient, open, and light living environment for the residents. Silver Thomas Hanley were thrilled to have worked alongside the Coolibah Care team and support the future of such an important facility to the Mandurah community.

NEWS HEADLINE // ECU City

Silver Thomas Hanley are proud to see ArchitectureAU feature Edith Cowan University (ECU) City as one of the standout news headlines that shaped architecture and the built environment in 2021.

In collaboration with Lyons Architecture and Haworth Tompkins Architects the team are proud of the positive response following the design reveal in August last year. The state-of-the-art campus is set to open in 2025, anticipated to project life and opportunity into our city centre.

ECU Vice-Chancellor and President Steve Chapman is eager to deliver a remarkable university as well as a landmark project for Perth’s CBD. “ECU City’s design, both physically and symbolically, reaches outwards, with a strong visual connection to its surrounds,” said Chapman. “It will be a university on show – inviting people to connect and be involved with what is occurring within.”

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE // Lyell McEwin ED Expansion

We are proud to be working alongside Architects on the redevelopment of the Lyell McEwin ED.

When complete, the three-level ED will include 72 treatment spaces, additional resuscitation and triage capabilities as well as a dedicated paediatric assessment and treatment space. A new eight-bed MHSS will provide a purpose-built facility with a more suitable care environment for mental health patients requiring short stay.

Thanks to Hansen Yuncken for sharing drone footage of construction progress, with expected completion of ED and MHSS by March 2022 and new wards December 2022.

PROJECT UPDATE // Grandton Applecross

Silver Thomas Hanley, is excited to see construction about to commence on the Grandton Applecross project for Norup + Wilson

The 14-storey development is set to deliver 80 serviced apartments along with 10 private care suites, rooftop garden, and communal facilities.

This luxury senior living project is designed to provide adaptation to changing health and lifestyle needs with 24-hour service within the building and achieves a five-star Green Star rating.

PACT, part of ABN Group, is set to start construction on the $110M project in the upcoming weeks.
