FLOWERING NOW - ‘Leucadendron’
Native to South Africa and available in so many colours and forms, Leucadendron fit comfortably into our Australian native gardens, providing structure all year round.
The bright “petals” of a Leucadendron that are changing tones at the moment are actually bracts (modified leaves), with their true flowers nestled on the central cone inside those colourful heads. Pick some to enjoy inside.

Take a look at our recently completed native verge garden, showing what diversity you can fit into a small garden area (10m x 2.5m) and how design elements can elevate the space.
Raised steel edge installed to protect the magnificent tree’s roots, and a water bowl for birds and others.
Green grasses and ground covers are contrasted here with silver foliage plants to ‘cool down’ existing warm tones including Eremophila ‘Blue Horizon, Leucophyta ‘Silver Nugget’, Chrysocephalum apiculatum and Blue Fescue.
Designed keeping council regulations in mind, ground covers 30cm from edges, kerbside pathways and bin placement, and plants selected to grow half to 1m only, there is plenty of room for creativity.

Choosing the right Garden Design course is an important decision.

Before you invest your time, money, and trust, ask yourself if a course will actually prepare you for a career as a professional Garden Designer?

Here are some essentials:
󠁯•󠁏 A professional portfolio to secure work.
•󠁏 Practical industry skills including site surveying, planting design, concept development, working plans, or technical drawings.
•󠁏 Guidance from professional designers throughout.
•󠁏 Flexible learning for a balanced life.󠁯
•󠁏 Post graduate success.

The right course needs to suit your needs and responsibilities as well as delivering the skills and knowledge needed to step into the professional realm.

The best garden design courses prepare you for designing outdoor spaces that are both beautiful and functional.

Remember, you're choosing the knowledge, practical skills, and professional guidance that will define your future career.

The Australian Academy of Garden Design have written a graduate story on my journey. Details below:

As a child, Wendy spent her time searching for orchids in conservation parks. She had never imagined that this quiet love of plants would become her life's work.

Her path wasn't direct as she first dreamed of interior design, but the grades didn't go her way, so instead, she spent over 25 years building a career in fashion and textiles.

But a calling was there, it waited. During Covid lockdowns, with work hours reduced, Wendy found herself spending more time in her garden than ever before, and that's when it clicked.
"I realised I needed to be working in the garden full time to be fully happy."

So she found the Australian Academy of Garden Design, drawn in by real, live classes with real tutors.

It wasn't always easy running her own business meant her studies took longer than planned, but she pushed through, graduating with Distinction.
Today, Wendy juggles three jobs in horticulture, including her own thriving business, Calytrix Garden Design.
"I have learned that I can run my own business and make people happy through the creation of new gardens."

From a child chasing orchids to a business owner painting with plants, Wendy's story is is a pure example that the things we loved as children were trying to tell us something all along.

Go and find your creative path now!
