Why do we use THREE different primers before waterproofing? 🤔

A lot of people think waterproofing is just rolling on a membrane… but the preparation underneath is just as important.

Here’s why we use different primers for different surfaces:

🔹 PVC Primer – Used on all PVC surfaces like puddle flanges and pipe penetrations. It helps the waterproofing membrane properly bond to smooth plastic surfaces.

🔹 Porous Primer – Applied to wall sheeting and other porous substrates. It seals the surface, reduces suction, and creates the ideal base for the membrane.

🔹 Epoxy Primer – Used on compressed fibre cement flooring. This provides superior adhesion, strengthens the substrate, and helps create a long-lasting waterproofing system.

Every surface is different, so using the correct primer is essential. Skipping this step or using the wrong product can compromise the entire waterproofing system.

At Oceans Edge Plumbing, we don’t cut corners—we follow the manufacturer’s specifications and use the right products for the right application to ensure a durable, compliant finish.
