A few moments from the last couple of days filming Dream Homes Revealed ().

There is always something special about stepping into homes that have been thoughtfully created — seeing the detail, the decisions, and the stories that shaped them.

Every home has its own rhythm, and every shoot is a reminder of how much care sits behind good design and building.

It is easy to hide behind certificates and experience, but Dee Hardy (.divorce.architect) argues that 90% of success in any transformative work comes down to rapport.

On the show today, we look at the secret to building that rapport: the courage to be yourself. Dee Hardy shares how her comfort with her own identity allows her to speak up and engage on a high level, even in a room full of hundreds. When you aren't trying to be anyone else, you create a space for truly intelligent exchange.

At its core, architecture is a beautiful mix of logic and human adaptation. My guest on TALKdesign, Tom Kundig (), brought up a grounding thought about the basic physics of what we do. He observed that humans are, at the end of the day, relatively weak creatures. The large issues of shelter and survival that our ancestors solved for generations always came down to one elegant equation: how do you take big, heavy things and break them down into little things that we can actually carry and manipulate?

It is a perspective that strips away the pretension sometimes found in design. When we approach a building not just as an artistic statement, but as a practical problem to be solved simply and elegantly, we connect with a long lineage of human craft and engineering.

To obtain true freedom in life is to be at one with yourself. My guest on TALKdesign, Dee Hardy (.divorce.architect), shares a powerful perspective on why we often find ourselves repeating patterns in our relationships.

Whether it is a designer understanding a client or an individual understanding their own path, the simplest task to find freedom is self-reflection. Dee Hardy notes that we aren't necessarily attracted to a specific "style" of person; rather, we are often trying to fill a space within ourselves where we feel unworthy. It is only through digging deeper that we can begin to design a life that truly reflects our worth.

What happens when you choose to work with something truly ordinary, or even what some might call ugly? Architect Tom Kundig () joined me on TALKdesign and reflected on his realization that restoring an already perfect bungalow didn't offer the same creative journey as working with a building that others might disregard.

He refers to it as creating a hot rod house, taking a structure that is less than ordinary and finding the pathway to make it extraordinary. It reminds us that great design isn't about starting with a perfect canvas; it is about the innovation and curiosity you bring to the problem.

In design, as in life, neutrality is a powerful tool. My guest Dee Hardy (.divorce.architect) brings a unique perspective to this from her work in mediation. She notes that the very things that attract a couple to one another are often the things they fall out about later—and as a designer or architect, getting caught in the middle is a recipe for conflict.

Dee Hardy reminds us that couples have "pillow talk." If you alienate one partner by taking sides, you inadvertently create friction in the home you are trying to build. It’s a vital lesson in maintaining professional distance while building personal connections.

Great outcomes always stem from curiosity, empathy, and a clear process. Dee Hardy (.divorce.architect) shared her perspective on the show about why a background in property development translates so seamlessly into relationship mediation.

In high-stakes property builds, you are constantly managing moving parts, budgets, and differing opinions to reach a successful, buildable outcome. As a life architect, Dee uses that exact structural logic to help couples deconstruct complex personal challenges cleanly, ensuring that the final outcome genuinely supports the lives of everyone involved.

Every now and then, a piece of feedback comes through that genuinely reminds me why we do what we do with TALKdesign. When someone takes the time out of their day to write a reflection like this, it makes the late nights and the deep research entirely worth it.

The conversation around architecture, land, and human behaviour is something I feel incredibly fortunate to facilitate. To know that these deep dives are resonating, sparking curiosity, and providing real value to your design journeys is the greatest outcome I could ask for. Thank you to everyone who listens, shares, and connects with our community.

What do Steve Jobs, Pixar, and the gaming world have in common? They all look to work with architects. Tom Kundig () joined me on the podcast to discuss why architectural graduates are increasingly being sought after by technology companies, augmented reality studios, and virtual reality creators.

The reality is that as an architect, you are trained in a very specific, beautiful way. You are trained technically, and you are also trained visually and poetically. That combination allows you to understand how spaces shape human emotion, whether those spaces exist in the physical world or on a digital screen.

In my conversation today, Dee Hardy (.divorce.architect) reminds us that purpose isn't always found in grand gestures; it starts in the way we handle the smallest parts of our day.

We often rush for the best seat or the best price, but there is a deeper sense of achievement in slowing down to appreciate the ordinary. Dee Hardy suggests a simple exercise: when you make your morning coffee, grab your favourite mug, feel its temperature, and truly embrace that first aroma. It’s a grounded way to find purpose and presence before the day begins.
