The Australian Electoral Commission's has released its annual listing of political donations data (which includes the 2022 federal election).

As usual, fossil fuel companies have been very generous in their support for the major parties.

Senator David Pocock from the ACT used the release of today's data to call for electoral donation reform to limit the influence of cashed-up entities on political parties.

"Today we see that the major parties once again accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of donations from fossil fuel companies, developers, banks, alcohol and gambling companies and their representatives — people with clear vested interests in key national policy debates."

How crazy is this view of the ORIGINAL BRISBANE CENTRAL STATION, c1895?! Yep, that’s Ann Street with the horses and carts! These humble timber and tin buildings were opened in 1889 when the railway line was extended from Roma Street Station. The “Railway Refreshment Rooms” (dining rooms) on the left of this photo were opened around 1894 or 95 to serve food and drinks to railway patrons. The whole complex was replaced by a significantly grander edifice, which opened in 1901. This building is the one that remains on Ann Street, although it has been much altered over its 121 years! **EDIT: since a lot of you have asked, the church visible was on the corner of Creek and Wickham Terrace and was the Wickham Terrace Presbyterian Church (later the City Congregational Church). It was resumed by the Railway Department and eventually demolished in the 1970s.

Photo from State Library of Queensland Looking from Edward Street towards Creek Street (towards Fortitude Valley). Today Central Station is still on the left and ANZAC square is on the right.
