Drill a 12mm hole 600mm down a hardwood door stile, 20mm centred, 22mm in from the edge.

It's not as easy as you might think to install a long concealed flush bolt.

If you're a carpenter or a locksmith and you install a lot of door hardware, high-end residential stuff, then chances are you’ll have to install a No-Ha invisible handle set one day.

When you go to install it, you’ll realise you need a special cutter. That's what I have here. It's a special tool for undercutting the face of the door for the push plate. Now, you have to use this tool. You can't just use any other tool from Bunnings or wherever because it has to rout inside the push plate area, undercutting. You have to do a perfect cut-out or else the mechanism won't work properly.

So I stock these now, the exact special tool you need for a fraction of the price. The special cutter like this from No-Ha, the more expensive one, comes with a 10mm shank. So this one comes as a half inch shank 12.7mm, which will fit in any half inch plunge router in Australia.

This is the Joseph Giles concealed flush bolt. What's nice about these is that they're more reachable compared to traditional flush bolts which are at the top and bottom corners of the door. The trouble is these are recessed all the way down the stile…and they should really be installed in a joiners shop where the door can be accurately cut down the edge, flush bolt installed and then patched in with timber and made good. But sometimes when you're on-site you just have to install on the spot, you have to find another way. Now I've encountered these challenges and overcome them, and I'd like to share all my tips…on the best way I've found to install these. I know it's not mission impossible, but installing concealed door hinges is a tricky job that can't be neatly done without using a professional router jig.

Some carpenters spend the day in a workshop just to prepare a timber jig to install the hinges, but they can't adjust it with any job changes.
▪️
We don't have that problem with our jig.
