BIRLING ENTRY STATEMENT

Forty-three bespoke acoustic panels now line The Northern Road, forming a monumental artwork that frames the entrance to Birling. The new residential community will deliver over 2,000 homes to Sydney's south west. Guided by Country and the site's heritage, the community’s design is defined by Lowes Creek, the existing canopy, and surrounding bushland.

The project's Connecting with Country process identified Lowes Creek as a significant feature of the landscape. The wall speaks to this as deep grooves flow along cascading earthy tones, representing the creek and its importance to the character of Birling. This thoughtful entry sets a welcoming tone and tells a shared story of place.

Local Dharug artist Leanne Redpath with architect Caroline Camino created the story and artwork woven into the wall. A collaborative design process transposed their art into the wall, involving landscape architects, architects, engineers, landscapers and concrete manufacturer Obnova.

The project team acknowledges the valuable contributions of Traditional Custodians in shaping the Connecting with Country principles that informed the Birling master plan and community design. The Connecting with Country process was facilitated GHD.

LEADERSHIP UPDATE

Taylor Brammer is pleased to announce the promotion of Louis Parsons-O'Malley to Senior Landscape Architect.

O PAVILION, OPTUS

In a post-pandemic world, Optus’ Macquarie Park Campus reconsiders how a workplace can function when shaped by Country, climate and sustainability.

Optus engaged Taylor Brammer, in collaboration with Architectus and BALARINJI, to deliver a campus guided by the cultural heritage of the Wallumadegal people. The design integrates leading biophilic principles, sustainability and the latest technology.

At the heart of the campus wide revitalisation sits the O Pavilion, connected by a timber spine of flexible workspaces that engage with the ecology of the broader landscape experience. The exposed design is in dialogue with seasonal changes and supports a range of activations extending into the central courtyard - the O Lawn.
