MUSA Landscape Architecture

MUSA Landscape Architecture RHS Chelsea Gold medal winning garden and landscape designer. Hi, I’m Ryan McMahon, the founder of MUSA Landscape Architecture.

Creating low maintenance plant and nature filled spaces with year round interest throughout Scotland and Internationally. With over 18 years of experience, I’ve had the privilege of transforming countless gardens across Scotland – and internationally – into thriving, nature-filled spaces that reflect my clients’ unique lifestyles. My Philosophy:
I believe a garden should be more than just a beauti

ful outdoor space – it should connect you to nature, provide year-round enjoyment, and be easy to maintain. My approach blends timeless design principles with a deep respect for the environment, ensuring every project uniquely balances form, function, and sustainability.

My most recent article for the Falkirk Herald on creating a small wildflower meadow on a traffic island in Falkirk Town Centre

Gardening is sometimes a little bit trial and error, I’ve noticed in my professional career sometimes plants preform as we want them to and sometimes, they do not – and these plants can be next to each other, in the same garden growing in the same conditions.

Our 2025 Chelsea Flower Show garden for Seawilding has been relocated back to the community at Ardfern and home to seawilding. Love these photos taken earlier in the year before the rain started!

360 view in Falkirk town centre beside the empty site that will become the new theatre for the town. This viewpoint is also beside a small community garden space that was created by Blooming Bairns who are a local group of volunteers who have done a lot of work in the town centre to look after and develop attractive green spaces.

Huge thank you to Scotdrone for this amazing fly through of the Callander Sq garden I designed for the Blooming bairns in Falkirk Town Centre.

Very proud of my volunteering with the Blooming Bairns in Falkirk, together we are changing Falkirk for the better!
This was a derelict empty space, following the demolition of the Callander Square shopping Centre, nothing was here only a few w**ds. As a volunteer I helped design this space and the amazing group of volunteers (me included) helped turn this space into a beautiful flower filled space in our free time for all to enjoy. Still to go in are benches made by school kids at St Mungo's.

Do you need help in the garden?

We are professional garden designers and horticulturalists with limited capacity to take on a few more gardens on a regular basis in the Falkirk area to help you get the most out of the space.

We can help you with regular maintenance and refreshing your garden with new plantings to give you year round interest and to encourage biodiversity.

We do not use herbicides or pesticides and always garden with nature in mind.

Contact today if you are thinking the garden needs a little help but maybe not a full garden design and not sure where to start.

This is a common garden 'w**d', what do you think?

Ground elder, spreads underground by rhizomes and very difficult to remove.....my solution in my own garden is to edit it where I don't want it and leave it where it's doing no harm and enjoy the flowers. It's also edible 😁

What 'w**ds' do you leave in your garden?

This week I have been helping out my friends at the new RHS Badminton garden show to create and build their show garden!
Steve from Frogheath Landscapes volunteers every Friday with a group of elderly people and school kids, getting them together to do gardening. Intergenerational learning and passing on knowledge!

This week has been a busy one in the studio. I've completed two concept projects and managed to do a simple sketch for each. I really enjoy sketching out a design, visualising it is really helpful for me and for clients.

We have also been busy on site with maintenance jobs in gardens we have built, a few plants arrived in the post, including these lovely David Austin Roses, variety 'Kew Gardens' a beautiful thornless white flowering shrub rose with a light scent. These are going to be planted into the Linlithgow garden I'm currently finishing off.

In my own garden, it's still a mess from the builders so I'm concentrating in the poly tunnel, tiding up my tomatoes, harvested the garlic and planting some monge tout and climbing beens in their place. It's a bit late but giving it a go.

The volunteer work I do with Falkirk's blooming Bairns has continued with the launch of the summer trail, most of the work has been done by others in the group but looks out for the reel created and if your in Falkirk, get a trail map from Falkirk Delivers and take part!
