New article from our director Andrew Yager, published in Stage Whispers Magazine — on making Australia's performance venues genuinely accessible.

Lux Imperium works in over half the country's professional performance spaces, so we see first-hand what good accessibility infrastructure looks like — and what's quietly stopped working. The piece covers the tech that's changed everything in the last three years: affordable hearing augmentation, near-free live captioning, flicker-free houselights, and lighting console presets for sensory-friendly shows (including our recent house lighting upgrade at His Majesty's Theatre, Perth).

If your venue is weighing up a houselight or hearing-augmentation upgrade, come and talk to us. Have a read below.

Discover how Australian performance venues can regain audiences by enhancing accessibility with innovative technologies and inclusive practices.

Adelaide Festival Centre has been the home of South Australia's performing arts since 1973. In late 2025, both the Festival Theatre and the Dunstan Playhouse closed for major refurbishment — including a full replacement of their auditorium house lighting with energy-efficient colour-mixing LED fittings and new architectural lighting control systems. Lux Imperium was engaged to commission and program both venues.

Using our custom White/Blue Linear fittings, manufactured, installed and commissioned a CNC-curved timber shelf and integrated LED strip system for the Coliseum Theatre balcony crossover.

Tied directly into the venue's existing DALI houselight system, the fitting provides low-level illumination in white or blue — giving patrons safe passage across the auditorium during the show, without ever breaking the atmosphere.

Importantly, this crossover serves the accessible seating area, which made this projects priority, to ensure every patron, regardless of need, can move safely and confidently in the dark.

We were very pleased to deliver Canberra Theatre Centre a brand new fleet of consoles — 1× APEX FP (the sleek, mobile addition to the range), plus 2× ION XE20, all loaded up with monitors and custom touring cases.

We also ran dedicated training sessions for the lighting department covering entertainment networking fundamentals and EOS Intermediate, because a great console is only as good as the operator behind it!

Congrats to the CTC team, can’t wait to see what you create with them.

The Tekno Train transformed a Sydney Trains K-set train into a moving nightclub as part of Vivid Sydney 2024. Created by award-winning Australian electronic music artist Paul Mac and produced by Performing Lines, the experience combined pulsating techno music with reactive LED lighting, synchronised to the train’s movement through tunnels and past iconic landmarks.

We recently completed a bespoke architectural lighting installation at one of Sydney's well-known cultural and tourist attractions.

The building’s lower concourse is defined by a series of distinctive mushroom-shaped concrete columns. They support the level above and act as the architectural feature of the space. Thousands of visitors pass by and meet here every day.
