WickWell Gardens ๐ŸŒฑHelping you grow with self-watering wicking beds! Aussie-made, water-saving, hassle-free. DM to start your garden! Hi!

Iโ€™m one of the founders of WickWell Gardens โ€” your go-to for self-watering wicking beds that save time, water, and hassle. As a mum who's almost 40, I want to provide my family with nutritious food without the chemicals and love the whole idea of farm to plate. I started this biz after struggling with thirsty gardens in Glenhaven. Fed up with daily watering, I built my first wicking bed โ€”and it ch

anged everything. Now, I help busy folks like you grow lush, low-maintenance gardens with our Australian-made timber beds (installed in a day!). When Iโ€™m not digging in the dirt, youโ€™ll find me meditating, playing with the kids and cooking! Join me in the water-smart gardening revolution!

Watercress is not generally a "go-to" vegetable to plant. BUT it is a nutrient-dense, peppery leafy green that earned a perfect 100/100 nutrient density score. It is incredibly low in calories but packed with vitamins A, C, and K, and minerals like calcium and potassium.

It is the perfect addition to salads, soups, and smoothies.

AND, it is fast-growing and thrives in cooler climates! There is no better time to plant then NOW!

Today, we celebrate a milestone in our business! It has been a marvellous year where we have evolved, continued to perfect, learnt, and shared our vision with many happy customers. It is hard to believe that the year ahead is looking even brighter. We have exciting new products coming soon, new branding, a new website, new employees, and hopefully, even more opportunities to help others create a sustainable vegetable garden for themselves.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our journey and supported us so far. We appreciate you! ๐Ÿฅณ

Today is the first day of Winter, and it is definitely not too late to keep building on your garden. Now is the time to:

๐Ÿฅฌ Vegetables & Herbs
Sydney & Coast (Mild Winters): Direct-sow kale, broad beans, turnips, parsnips, and radishes. Transplant seedlings of broccoli, lettuce, and cabbage.
Cooler Inland/Southern NSW: Focus on long-maturing, frost-tolerant crops. Plant garlic, onions, cabbage, and peas.
Northern/Subtropical NSW: Warmer days mean you can plant a wider range of veggies. Sow Asian greens (bok choy), celery, rocket, and try planting sweet potatoes.
All-Year Staples: Herbs like coriander, chamomile, and spring onions.

๐ŸŒณ Fruit Trees & Roses
Deciduous Fruit & Nut Trees: Bare-root fruit trees (like apples, pears, peaches, and plums).
Citrus: It's a great time to pop new citrus trees in the ground. Fertilise established lemon trees to ensure they have the energy to fight off scale.
Roses: Late June is when bare-root roses become widely available. Prepare your planting holes with a slight mound in the center to spread the roots.

๐ŸŒบ Flowers
Winter Annuals: Plant seedlings of pansies, snapdragons, cyclamens, alyssum, and stock.
Native Shrubs: It is a perfect time to plant Australian natives like banksias, grevilleas, and kangaroo paw. Winter rains help their roots establish before spring.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Key June Gardening Jobs
Pruning: Prune dead or dying foliage from trees and shrubs. Hydrangeas can also be pruned now.
Mulch: Add a layer of mulch around garden beds.

If you are anything like me, adding another thing to your plate just seems too hard. Composting sounds great in theory, and you fully intend to try it, but life just gets in the way, and you end up with a big, ugly, black, plastic thing in your backyard. I've definitely been there! NOW, THERE IS A SIMPLE, EASY COMPOSTING SOLUTION. A worm hotel or in-bed compost is small, easy to use, and takes all the work out of it! You simply lift the lid, put in your food scraps, and the worms do all the work. It is that easy!

Why should we bother?
๐Ÿ› Environmental impact - minimises landfill, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions
๐Ÿ› Soil - acts as a natural fertiliser, prevents water loss, improves soil structure
๐Ÿ› Personal - Saves you money buying fertilisers, and no more smelly garbage bins.

I see so many people creating vegetable gardens to have "better" quality veggies for their family, yet they choose cheap materials, which could be doing more harm than good. Did you know:
โŒPressure-Treated Wood: Older wood treated with CCA (chromated copper arsenate) can leach arsenic, copper, and chromium into the soil. Modern pressure-treated woods are safer but still leach copper.
โŒNails/Screws/Brackets: Old fixtures can rust and create highly acidic soil, which can harm your plants.
โŒPlastic & Concrete: Non-food-grade plastics and PVC can leach phthalates when heated. Fresh concrete can leach heavy metals and affect soil pH.
โŒPaint/Seal: Organic seed oils can be toxic if boiled, and old paint could contain lead.

We are completely food-safe and use high-quality products to ensure that none of this happens in your vegetable garden!
