Today, BY Group is celebrating Indigenous Literacy Day with The Indigenous Literacy Foundation, a Community-led organisation who work with remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities across Australia to provide culturally relevant books, resources and literacy programs.

Indigenous Literacy Day is a national celebration of First Nations peoples’ stories, cultures and languages. This year’s theme is ‘Country Is Our Teacher’.

Outside of his role as Construction Manager at BY Group, Mark West is President of the Manly Brothers Junior Rugby League Club. On a recent work trip to Tuvalu, Mark brought along some training t-shirts the club no longer needed.

Each afternoon, hundreds of the locals in Tuvalu gather on the airport runway to strike up games of Volleyball, Soccer and Rugby. The team was swarmed with very enthusiastic and appreciative kids when they opened up the boxes and the shirts were gone in seconds!

We were incredibly proud to participate in the Women for Change Tuvalu Workshop run by the Fatulei Association. The session focused on women’s rights and gender equality, empowering the community to drive positive change.

The event was arranged and funded by BY Group and GHD (Project PMCA) as part of the broader PMSP Tuvalu Wharf and Workshop Project, demonstrating Australia’s enduring partnership with Tuvalu.

Together with partners Hatanga and TCS, BY Group is working on upgrading the Tuvalu Police Maritime Workshop and Wharf in Funafuti Port. Supported through Australia's Pacific Maritime Security Program, this project strengthens Tuvalu's maritime security capability and supports the operation of HMTSS Te Mataili III, Tuvalu's Guardian-class Patrol Boat gifted by the Australian Government.

The raised hand shown in the group photo is a symbol of the commitment to stop violence against women and children.

Last Friday, BY Group was proud to be the major sponsor of the Stephen Williams Annual Golf Tournament, held at the Vincentia Golf Course.

It was a fantastic day that brought together community members, partners and supporters to enjoy great golf during NAIDOC Week.

The event provided an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the rich histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples while strengthening the connections that make our communities stronger.

Congratulations to our BY Group golf team of Nathanial Hampton, Ben Fox, and Glen Ella for representing us on the day. The team achieved a fantastic result, taking home the Callaway Runners-Up Trophy.

Last week as part of , our South Coast team organised an online presentation with guest speakers Cleone Wellington and Faye Worner from Waminda, the South Coast Women’s Health and Wellbeing Aboriginal Corporation.

The session provided valuable insights into Waminda's history, the services they provide and their ongoing work supporting Aboriginal women, children and families.

As an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO), Waminda plays a vital role in delivering culturally safe, community-led healthcare and wellbeing services.

Their presentation highlighted the impact of initiatives such as the Birthing on Country Project, as well as the importance of self-determination, community connection and improving outcomes for future generations.

Thank you to the team at Waminda for sharing their story with us.
