Reverse Garbage is a not-for-profit creative reuse centre based in Marrickville, in Sydney’s inner west. As an environmental charity, our mission is to make everyone experts in reuse by motivating, educating, and providing simple sustainable solutions. Each year we redirect around 250 tonnes of commercial and industrial waste from landfill to a new life with educators, artists, upcyclers, DIY enthusiasts, tinkerers, set builders, window dressers, community organisations, festivals, charities, and more. We reach around 16,000 people each year with our 'choose to reuse' messaging via early learning, primary, secondary and tertiary education, community events and public workshops.

Party people the Inner West Ale Trail is almost here! On Saturday, November 7th Ben Lee and an incredible line-up of Inner West artists are playing some tunes across some of our favourite local breweries. See you there!

November 15th - we are bringing the party to Reverse Garbage! Our mates from Young Henrys are running a pop-up bar featuring a circular b**r on tap! BYO b**r vessel. Come on down for a bev and a BBQ! 🥳

Come on down and grab what you need or figure out a creative solution with one of our Reuse Specialists from our awesome Retail team.

- Small square pieces of carpets - great as door mats, to cover up and deter any kitty cat scratching, or to replace pieces of damaged carpet.

Just in! How gorgeous are these Industrial thread cones?

Not sure what to do with a huge cone of hyper coloured thread? Here’s a few ideas...

Also great for spinning art yarn! (thank you for the suggestion Emma and Beth!)

Overlocking... industrial cones are made for overlockers and secondhand ones save you a fortune.

Pop it on a thread stand for big sewing and quilting projects.

Hold 3–6 strands together to knit or crochet your own custom yarn.... hello marled colour ways!

Make lush tassels, POM POMS and trims.

Thread-wrap sticks, jars, cardboard letters or old coat hangers to make new crafty work.

Braid friendship bracelets or use it for punch needle and string art.

Make creatures, wrapped cardboard shapes and yarn paintings with the kids.

And the empty cones... they make great stamps, bowling pins, robot parts and loose parts play.

Events... skip the single-use decorations and style your next party with thread...wrap it into bunting, tassel garlands and table decor!

And that's a wrap on Repair Day at Reverse Garbage. Well officially - every day is repair day in our world. What a special day. A huge thank you to all the kind, clever menders who came along and shared their skills and stories with us.

One person took up a pair of jeans for the very first time. Another lovingly repaired a gorgeous sequinned cardigan that once belonged to her mum. Jumpers, dresses and shirts all got a second life, and our marketing manager Camilla even scored an amazing pattern consult from a passionate sewer with a knack for finding and using the most interesting fabrics - curtains included.

The best part was watching everyone swap skills and ideas, finding inspiration in each other’s repair solutions.
