Recently completed is this 4 bedroom, timber framed residence in Turvey Park. The key areas of the design brief were to work within the existing footprint yet create a more functional space embracing open plan living whilst inviting improved connections between the kitchen through to the proposed rear deck. Also on the agenda was to provide an ensuite to the main bedroom.
In order to achieve the brief, decisions were made to create openings to existing walls. With existing press metal ceilings throughout the residence, notably the kitchen and dining room, the endeavour was to retain these features. Due to the roofline, structural steel was required to form the large openings, hidden within the bulkheads, not to disturb the pressed metal ceilings. With this transformation, the former small spaces of the dining room and narrow sitting room have become a central to the flow of this residence, with a secluded storage area doubling as privacy accessing the main bathroom and allowing the kitchen to increase in size and incorporate a breakfast bar into the design.
The result, a space for a young family to enjoy with improved visibility and connection between spaces, increased natural light into this rear zone, a second bathroom to the house and a deck to soak it all in, all without extending the GFA.
