Some of my beautiful irises that have bloomed throughout the week. 🌸💜

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love this time of year! There’s something so magical about watching the garden come alive again after the long, bitter winter. The fresh blooms, the amazing colours, and the promise of more blooming flowers in the days to come, makes my heart so happy, and I can't help but smile, ☺️🌷🌿💕

My favourite time of the year, when my irises start to bloom, these beautiful tall bearded Irises bloomed last weekend, I can't wait to see them all in their splendor.

🌸 SPRING IS HERE! 🌸

And that means our Tall Bearded Irises are waking up and getting ready to put on their spectacular spring show! 💜💛🧡

So, what should you be doing right now to help get the best blooms?

🌱 Give them a spring feed
If you haven’t already fertilised your Tall Bearded Irises, now is a good time to give them a light feed to support strong growth and those beautiful blooms.

🌸 The fertiliser I use is Neutrog Sudden Impact for Roses. I’ve found it works great on all my irises, It’s been a great all-round fertiliser for my iris garden.

Apply it around the plants rather than directly against the rhizomes, and always follow the application rate on the pack. Then water it in well.

💡 My tip: Don’t think more fertiliser means more flowers, irises don’t need to be overfed. A sensible feed at the right time is all they need.

☀️ Make sure they’re getting plenty of sun
Tall Bearded Irises love sunshine. Check that surrounding plants and weeds haven't grown up and started shading them.

💧 Water when needed – but don't overdo it
If spring is dry, water enough to keep the soil slightly moist. Good drainage is essential, as constantly wet conditions around the rhizomes can encourage rot.

🍃 Tidy up old foliage
Remove dead, damaged or spent leaves, but don't cut back healthy green foliage. Those leaves are busy feeding the rhizomes.

🌿 Clear around the rhizomes
Remove weeds and any heavy, moisture-holding mulch sitting over the rhizomes.

✂️ Don't divide them now, leave established clumps where they are. The better time to divide crowded Tall Bearded Irises is after flowering, or later in summer/autumn.

🌸 Then comes the best part… watch those flower spikes appear!

A little attention now can help your Tall Bearded Irises give you a magnificent spring display.

🐝💜 Winter surprise in the iris bed! 💜🐝

Even in the middle of winter, my reblooming iris 'Molokini' is putting on a spectacular show. Its rich, velvety bloom is a welcome splash of color when most of the garden is still resting.

The bees absolutely love it! 🐝 Watching them eagerly gather pollen from these winter bloom is a wonderful reminder of how valuable reblooming irises can be for our pollinators during the cooler months.

Nature always finds a way to brighten the season—both for us and for the bees. 💜🌿
