NCS is proud to have recently completed specialist concrete repair and sealing works within a Backwash Tank for Westernport Water, delivering a high-quality restoration solution designed to extend asset life and support the ongoing reliability of critical water treatment infrastructure.

The project involved the remediation of deteriorated concrete, crack repairs, sealing of joints and pe*******ons, and the treatment of areas vulnerable to water ingress. By restoring the integrity of the structure and addressing potential points of deterioration, the completed works will help ensure long-term durability and operational performance.

Scope of works included:
✔ Concrete repair and remediation
✔ Crack sealing
✔ Joint and pe*******on sealing
✔ Water ingress protection
✔ Application of AS/NZS 4020:2018 certified materials

Not all concrete repairs are created equal. And some common assumptions can actually make things worse.

Here are a few myths we come across regularly:

❌ “If you seal the surface, the problem is fixed”
→ Surface coatings don’t stop underlying deterioration.

❌ “Cracks are just cosmetic”
→ Many are - until they become pathways for water and corrosion.

❌ “Replacement is always the best option”
→ In many cases, remediation can extend asset life significantly at a fraction of the cost.

Good remediation is about solving the root cause - not just improving appearance.

Understanding that difference is what protects long-term asset performance.

What makes a concrete repair actually last?

It’s not just the product used - it’s the process behind it.

Long-term performance typically comes down to:
🦺 Correct diagnosis of the underlying issue
🦺 Proper surface preparation
🦺 Selecting the right repair method (not just the fastest one)
🦺 Installation quality and workmanship

Miss one of these, and even the best materials can fail prematurely.

Get them right, and repairs can significantly extend the life of the structure. Durability isn’t accidental - it’s engineered.

Planning a repair? Feel free to reach out - we’re happy to help assess the right approach.

National Concrete Solutions was engaged by a water authority to remediate a clear water storage tank experiencing leakage through cold joints and significant calcification build-up.

Prior to remediation, the tank exhibited active leakage along construction joints, with visible water ingress, efflorescence, and localised deterioration of the concrete substrate. These defects posed both a durability risk and a potential compliance concern for potable water storage.

NCS delivered a targeted remediation and preventative maintenance solution using Xypex crystalline technology. The scope included approximately 30 linear metres of active joint repair, involving preparation and sealing of leaking construction joints under damp conditions using Xypex repair materials. This was complemented by the application of 94 m² of Xypex Concentrate to internal tank surfaces, providing integral waterproofing protection.

Upon completion, all active leaks were successfully remediated, restoring the structure to a watertight condition and extending the service life of the asset. Xypex crystalline technology remains active in the presence of moisture, providing long-term self-sealing capability against future micro-cracking and water ingress.

The use of Xypex was critical for this potable water application, as it is non-toxic, non-leaching, and compliant with drinking water standards. By becoming an integral part of the concrete matrix, rather than acting as a surface-applied membrane, the system ensures long-term durability while maintaining water quality in line with the client’s operational requirements.

When was the last time you reviewed the true condition of your assets?

For many councils and asset managers, ageing infrastructure isn’t the challenge - it’s the uncertainty around what to do next.

Is it:
• Monitor?
• Repair?
• Replace?

Too often, decisions are made once issues become visible or urgent - when options are already limited.
But with early assessment and the right remediation strategy, many assets can be safely extended for decades.

The key is understanding:
• What’s actually happening within the concrete
• How quickly deterioration is progressing
• What level of intervention is really required

At National Concrete Solutions, we work alongside asset owners to provide clarity - helping you make informed decisions that balance cost, risk, and long-term performance.

💡If you’re reviewing ageing assets or planning future works, it’s worth having these conversations early.

The question isn’t just “When should we replace assets?” - it’s “How can we extend their life safely and cost-effectively?”

Ageing concrete assets don’t have to follow the predictable path of deterioration → demolition → rebuild. With careful assessment and planning, many assets can be preserved and extended, saving time, money, and operational disruption.

At National Concrete Solutions, we support asset owners and managers by:
• Conducting detailed condition assessments
• Identifying targeted remediation solutions
• Implementing high-performance concrete repair and waterproofing systems
• Planning staged works to minimise downtime

Our services are designed to give you options, not just a single answer. By combining technical expertise with industry-leading repair products, we help make extend-vs-replace decisions practical and achievable.

Sometimes the smartest solution isn’t rebuilding - it’s protecting and extending what you already have.

💡 Curious about how your assets could be extended strategically? Our team can provide insights and tailored solutions for your infrastructure.
