I find this achievement a bit harder to post. As a female in a male dominated industry, it has been my go to protection to keep a low profile. I don't love sticking my head above the firing line 😅as in the past, any public attention has lead to unpleasant interactions which almost lead me to leave my trade. Last year I decided to step out, stop being a chicken and start meeting others in my industry. MPAQ, NAWIC and the Women's plumbing alliance has been a great support and encouragement in this. To be a finalist in this award is not about winning it. It is about standing as an equal with my peers, no matter their gender. I want to show those young girls and boys, the mature age apprentices, those that are smaller and shorter, that we can do it. Yes it will be hard and you will have to fight hard and work your butt off to become good in your trade. I love plumbing more than I could ever have known and I am grateful that I was given the opportunity to become a plumber. I am proud of my trade and hopefully those of us who are standing up can make a better pathway for the ones who follow 🙏💪🛠

What a great morning we had encouraging the students by sharing about our trades. Shout out to NAWIC who once again put on such a great event. Every year the ladies from NAWIC travel all over QLD to show that it is possible for females to step into a trade and have a great career in the construction industry. They put in place contacts, information and mentoring to ensure that the girls are given every opportunity on their journey in a trade. I'm looking forward to seeing more schools attend next year.

Recently I had an encounter that reminded me how vulnerable I am as a woman in my trade. When going into homes, I always try to be aware of my surroundings, the atmosphere I am walking into, and the body language of the customer. On this occasion I did not practice my usual checks and I did not recognise immediately that the customer was under the influence. As I was getting ready to leave I noticed them lock the screen and timber door which had up until then, remained open for the duration of my job. Now this may have just been an oversight by the customer or an act of confusion due to intoxication, but my heart dropped to the pit of my stomach. I started looking for an escape and planning in my mind how I was going to get out safely, all while I was talking to my customer calmly. After a bit of conversation, the door was unlocked and I left my customer non the wiser that I had been scared. Now some may say this is an over reaction, but as women, 90% of the time, we are physically not as strong as a man and if cornered in a house, the chances of overpowering a man and getting out safely are pretty slim. I want to encourage businesses to think about implementing work place practices that help both women and men to be safe in these types of situations. We all have training in work place health and safety, we wear our PPE and we have our SWMS, JAS etc but do we include training in reading body language, how to read a situation and how to diffuse situations. I feel it is more important than ever to start including this training in our workplaces.

Happy Friday, everyone 😊 as per usual friday antics, we had emergency call outs. Today saw me with sewage splashed on my face...to be exact, my top lip 🤢🤮 and in my eye. Heres to a week of pink eye 😅 Shout out, and thanks to for coming to the rescue on one of my jobs 💪

What an amazing few days thanks to MPAQ and the Womens Plumbing Alliance. A massive shout out to Krishna and Summer for all their hard work to organise the perfect stay for us. Seaworld resort, your service and food were outstanding. To all the ladies and guest speakers I met, thank you for you encouragement, kindness and all the laughs. This has filled me up and given me just what I needed to keep pushing forward and running my business 💜💜💜
